As a System Administrator Intern, you will work closely with our experienced IT team in Baltimore, Maryland, to support and enhance our systems and infrastructure. What you'll do

• Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers and network equipment to ensure optimal performance and security.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and enhance user experience.
• Collaborate with senior system administrators to implement system upgrades and patches, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Participate in the development and documentation of IT policies and procedures to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
• Provide technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software inquiries and resolving issues promptly.

Requirements

• Must be a current or former member of the military eligible for the SkillBridge program.
• Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and server administration.
• Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows Server and Linux.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with team members and end-users.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Prior experience in an IT role or relevant coursework is a plus but not required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash for automation tasks.
• Familiarity with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
• Experience with ticketing systems for tracking technical support requests.
• Familiarity with remote desktop tools and system monitoring software.
• Understanding of network protocols and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNs.
• Ability to use diagnostic tools to assess system performance and identify issues.
