What you'll do

• Collaborate with senior IT security professionals to assess and enhance the organization's security posture, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Participate in the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
• Assist in conducting security assessments, audits, and risk analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures.
• Support incident response efforts by analyzing security incidents and contributing to the development of incident response plans.
• Engage in continuous monitoring of security systems, identifying potential threats and responding to security alerts in a timely manner.
• Contribute to the creation of security awareness training programs for employees, promoting a culture of security within the organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that security considerations are integrated into all aspects of IT projects and initiatives.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in IT security, sharing insights and recommendations with the team.
• Document security processes and procedures, ensuring that all materials are clear, concise, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
• Assist in the evaluation and selection of security tools and technologies that align with the organization's needs and objectives.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding security strategy and initiatives.
• Provide support for various IT security projects, gaining exposure to different areas of the security domain.

Requirements

• Currently serving in the military or a recent veteran eligible for the SkillBridge program.
• Strong interest in IT security, with a foundational understanding of security principles and practices.
• Familiarity with common security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also demonstrating initiative and independence.
• Basic understanding of network security concepts, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption.
• Proficiency in using common IT security tools and technologies, such as SIEM, vulnerability scanners, and endpoint protection solutions.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in the rapidly evolving field of IT security.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Nice to have

• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
• Experience with security incident response and threat intelligence processes.
• Familiarity with programming or scripting languages, such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
• Knowledge of cloud security principles and best practices, particularly in environments like AWS or Azure.
• Previous internship or work experience in IT or cybersecurity roles.

Skills & tools

• Knowledge of security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
• Familiarity with vulnerability assessment tools and methodologies.
• Understanding of network protocols and security technologies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting purposes.
• Experience with project management tools and methodologies is a plus.
