About the role
In this pivotal leadership role, you will be responsible for shaping the vision surrounding trust, safety, fraud prevention, and compliance within the DoorDash platform. Your primary focus will be on managing a dedicated design team that aims to safeguard the interests of consumers, merchants, and Dashers, all while ensuring a seamless user experience across the board.

What you'll do
- Develop and implement a comprehensive technical design strategy for your designated product area, ensuring that initiatives are prioritized effectively and that teams are aligned to avoid redundant efforts.
- Break down complex and ambiguous challenges into clear functional architectures and systems, utilizing prototypes and production-ready code to illustrate potential solutions.
- Maintain an active role in design by creating design systems, component libraries, and AI-enhanced workflows, including prompt libraries and evaluation pipelines.
- Set and uphold high standards for both design and engineering, ensuring that prototypes are not only innovative but also ready for production, with a measurable impact on product performance metrics.
- Guide and mentor senior designers and managers, contribute to the hiring process, and cultivate an environment that empowers design engineers to thrive.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that design decisions are informed by user feedback and data-driven insights.
- Lead design reviews and critique sessions to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure that DoorDash remains at the forefront of product design and user experience.
Requirements
- A strong portfolio or repository showcasing your advanced skills in both design and development, demonstrating your ability to create impactful user experiences.
- Professional experience with modern web technologies, particularly React, TypeScript, or comparable frameworks.
- A proven track record of setting strategic direction within a product area, with influence derived from tangible results rather than mere presentations.
- Experience in high-growth consumer technology environments, particularly with complex marketplace products or platform and infrastructure teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize system-wide enhancements that boost the productivity and efficiency of team members.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Familiarity with AI-driven design tools and methodologies that can enhance the design process.
- Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and challenges.
