What you'll do
Provide expert technical leadership in the development, coordination, and documentation of structural engineering solutions for a wide range of project types.
Champion the integration of sustainable and resilient design principles, exploring low-carbon materials and efficient systems to minimize environmental impact.
Collaborate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and other consultants to develop holistic design solutions that balance performance, cost, and constructability.
Lead the preparation of detailed calculations, drawings, specifications, and other contract documents to high standards of clarity and accuracy.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, supporting their professional growth through feedback, coaching, and knowledge transfer.
Conduct comprehensive peer reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
Liaise with consultants, contractors, and clients to address design queries, resolve issues, and communicate technical information effectively.
Support the business development process by contributing to proposals, presentations, and client meetings where technical expertise is required.
Promote a culture of continuous learning within the team, encouraging the exploration of new technologies, tools, and methodologies in structural engineering.
Ensure that all project documentation reflects a commitment to quality, safety, and constructability through thorough verification and validation.
Participate in the development and maintenance of internal standards, templates, and protocols to enhance efficiency and consistency across projects.
Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing clear, confident, and transparent communication regarding structural strategy, risks, and opportunities.
Contribute to the growth and reputation of the practice by taking ownership of project success and demonstrating DIALOG's core values in all interactions.
Engage with emerging trends in structural engineering, including digital tools, parametric modeling, and performance-based analysis, to deliver innovative solutions.
Requirements
You are a registered Professional Engineer in good standing in Ontario or are eligible for licensure upon hire.
You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
You bring a minimum of 8 years of progressive structural engineering experience on building projects.
You have demonstrated expertise in the design of complex structural systems, including but not limited to steel, concrete, and mass timber.
You are proficient in the use of structural analysis and design software, with the ability to interpret and validate calculation outputs.
You have a strong understanding of building codes, standards, and engineering best practices applicable to multi-story and commercial buildings.
You have led projects from early concept design through detailed documentation and construction administration.
You communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients, consultants, and contractors, at all levels of an organization.
Nice to have
Experience with sustainable and high-performance building systems, including passive design strategies and life cycle assessment considerations.
Familiarity with digital design and collaboration tools used in a integrated project delivery environment.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in our Toronto studio.
The role may require occasional travel to project sites or client meetings as needed.
