The Stationary Engineer serves as the technical lead responsible for the performance, safety, and reliability of critical electro-mechanical assets. This position provides direct supervision of custodial personnel to ensure the Houston facility maintains a clean, orderly, and efficient operational environment. The role further develops the organization's technical capacity by training and mentoring Maintenance Specialists who support additional regional sites. All activities align with Daniels' standards for operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
What you'll do
Stationary Engineers and boiler operators manage the full operational lifecycle of complex equipment. They initiate startup sequences, adjust operating parameters, conduct repairs, and execute safe shutdown procedures for electro-mechanical systems. Continuous monitoring of meters, gauges, and computerized control interfaces is essential to verify that heating, cooling, and ventilation infrastructure functions within strict safety and performance limits. Technicians employ advanced electrical and electronic diagnostic instruments to service, troubleshoot, and calibrate these systems.
A core responsibility involves proactive and corrective maintenance. Engineers inspect, adjust, and, when necessary, completely replace degraded components such as valves, gaskets, and bearings. They perform systematic lubrication of moving assemblies, replace air and process filters, and conduct thorough cleaning to remove soot and corrosion deposits. These actions directly sustain boiler efficiency and extend the functional service life of Daniels' infrastructure. Detailed documentation accompanies every repair, adjustment, and calibration to support future troubleshooting, audits, and regulatory reviews. This position oversees the robotic washline, autoclaves, boilers, and related support equipment that serve both local and regional operations. Engineers coordinate closely with site leadership to ensure that electro-mechanical systems deliver uninterrupted service and meet production demands. They schedule and verify the integrity of preventive maintenance tasks to reduce the risk of unexpected failures. When necessary, they execute component replacements to preserve throughput and minimize operational downtime.
Daily routines include managing the deployment and workflow of custodial staff to achieve high standards of facility cleanliness. The Stationary Engineer establishes work priorities, allocates tasks, and provides hands-on guidance to sustain a safe and productive workplace. Through structured training sessions, the engineer mentors new Maintenance Specialists, transferring knowledge of safety protocols, equipment procedures, and diagnostic methods. This mentorship function strengthens the technical capability of the entire maintenance organization.
Safety and regulatory adherence are fundamental to this role. The engineer must hold current state certification as a stationary engineer or boiler operator. A minimum of three years of proven experience in industrial electro-mechanical maintenance is required. Deep familiarity with high-pressure boiler safety standards and automated control system regulations is mandatory. Engineers maintain precise records of all maintenance events, meter readings, and adjustments. These records support continuous improvement initiatives and provide an audit trail for stakeholders. Communication with regional sites ensures alignment on performance expectations and incident response.
