Finance Manager
Job description
About the role
You will act as the primary finance partner embedded within the manufacturing and lab operations teams, translating complex financial data into actionable insights for site leaders. This position owns the financial narrative for our production network, ensuring every manufacturing site and third-party lab understands their cost drivers and margin exposure. You will be accountable for driving clarity around overhead absorption, unit economics, and vendor profitability at a granular level. The role requires you to be present during critical capital and operational decisions, such as purchasing new machinery, opening or closing facilities, or shifting work between internal and external partners. You will build and maintain the financial models that reveal the true cost of routing, enabling faster and more confident strategic choices. Success in this role means you provide operators with timely, accurate, and insightful financial guidance that prevents issues rather than just reporting them. You will own the integrity of our manufacturing cost of goods sold and play a key role in protecting our gross margin through rigorous analysis and proactive partnership.
Key facts
What you'll do
Partner with Manufacturing Site Leads to own the finance relationship for each location, ensuring every site lead knows their budget in detail, understands the root causes of variances, and has the information required to act decisively.
Collaborate closely with the 3P Labs team to bring financial rigor to routing decisions, constructing clear analysis that quantifies the cost of each routing option and ensures trade-offs are visible before commitments are made.
Own the operations monthly close process by leading pre-close and preliminary close meetings with site leads, aligning early with Cost Accounting, setting clear expectations, driving follow-through, and ensuring every variance is explained with quantified detail.
Take ownership of manufacturing COGS accuracy by performing detailed expense reviews on fixed overhead, validating third-party lab costs against routing logic, and conducting in-depth analyses of gold and precious metals margins to confirm adherence to markup targets.
Continuously improve the close and reporting process each month, treating every cycle as a chance to remove manual steps, tighten timelines, and elevate the quality of insights delivered to leadership.
Provide strategic decision support by building robust financial models for manufacturing equipment purchases, footprint changes, and insource versus outsource evaluations, offering a clear point of view rather than only presenting raw data.
Act as the financial guardian of our operations by monitoring key performance indicators, challenging assumptions, and ensuring that financial risks related to manufacturing and lab partnerships are identified and managed proactively.
Requirements
Bring a minimum of 6 years of finance experience, with a meaningful portion of that background spent in a physical-product business operating within a high growth environment.
Demonstrate a proven ability to partner effectively with operators, bridging the gap between operational reality and financial impact in both directions with clarity and respect.
Show strong ownership of recurring processes such as month-end close, forecasting, and reporting, leaving each cycle in better shape than you found it through clear ownership and follow-through.
Maintain excellence in modeling skills, with high proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets and comfort using automation tools like Claude Co-Work or similar AI assistants to handle large, messy datasets efficiently.
Communicate complex financial analysis in a concise and structured way, distilling findings into clear recommendations that resonate with executive stakeholders and support fast decision-making.
Exhibit a bias for action and comfort with ambiguity, possessing the backbone to challenge senior stakeholders when necessary and push for the right answer based on data and judgment.
Have a strong sense of ownership for cost accuracy and margin integrity in manufacturing settings, with a track record of questioning variances and ensuring timely resolution.
Demonstrate reliability in meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality financial outputs under pressure, even when working with incomplete or evolving information.
