What you'll do
- Assume end-to-end ownership of quality initiatives for D2l's cloud-based learning platforms and workforce development solutions.
- Design and execute sophisticated test strategies that encompass functional, regression, performance, security, and exploratory testing across diverse product lines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to translate product requirements into detailed test plans, test cases, and traceability matrices.
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts using programming and scripting languages to support continuous testing initiatives.
- Analyze complex system architectures to identify potential quality risks and devise testing approaches that mitigate those risks effectively.
- Serve as a quality advocate by coaching team members on testing best practices and promoting a culture of proactive quality awareness.
- Leverage advanced debugging skills to isolate, reproduce, and document defects with precision, ensuring efficient resolution by development teams.
- Evaluate third-party tools, libraries, and integrations for compatibility, performance, and security implications within our testing environments.
- Contribute to the evolution of testing standards, processes, and metrics that drive measurable improvements in product quality and team efficiency.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production incidents and provide timely triage and resolution guidance for critical quality issues.
- Mentor junior testers and pair with developers to elevate the overall quality mindset across the engineering organization.
- Investigate emerging testing methodologies, tools, and practices and champion their adoption where appropriate to enhance our testing capabilities.
- Partner with Customer Experience teams to gather feedback and incorporate real-world scenarios into test coverage and validation efforts.
- Ensure all testing activities align with regulatory, compliance, and security requirements relevant to global education and enterprise markets.
Requirements
- You possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- You have a minimum of three years of professional experience in software testing, quality assurance, or a related discipline within a complex software development environment.
- You demonstrate expert-level ability to identify defects, design issues, and process gaps throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements through deployment.
- You have a proven track record of maintaining high standards for software performance, reliability, security, and usability in previous roles.
- You have hands-on experience creating and maintaining automated test suites using modern testing frameworks and tools.
- You are proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, Python, or JavaScript, and at least one scripting language.
- You have experience working with RESTful APIs, databases, and modern cloud-based architectures common in SaaS environments.
- You hold a valid driver's license and are authorized to drive to various locations within the Kitchener region as required for team collaboration and testing activities.
Nice to have
- Experience contributing to open source projects or demonstrating quality contributions in publicly shared repositories.
- Familiarity with learning management systems, educational technology platforms, or workforce development software.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code concepts.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles as they apply to software testing.
Practical notes
This role may require occasional travel within the Kitchener area to collaborate with team members or participate in project activities. Employment eligibility verification will be conducted in accordance with Canadian legal requirements. Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada without restriction. The position operates within standard business hours, with potential need for after-hours support during critical release or incident windows.
