What you'll do
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of tugboats to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety regulations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Oversee the repair and replacement of faulty components, ensuring that all work is performed to high standards of quality and safety.
- Collaborate with the crew to develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, minimizing downtime and enhancing vessel reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of vessels for docking and undocking operations, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Provide technical support and guidance to crew members, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in tugboat engineering, applying new knowledge to improve operational efficiency.
- Participate in safety drills and training sessions, contributing to a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Liaise with external vendors and service providers to coordinate specialized repairs and maintenance activities as needed.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices in all engineering activities.
- Support the development of engineering procedures and policies to enhance operational effectiveness and safety.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in marine engineering, specifically with tugboats or similar vessels.
- Relevant certifications in marine engineering or a related field, such as STCW or USCG licenses.
- Strong knowledge of marine propulsion systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems in a maritime context.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in the maritime industry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
- A commitment to safety and environmental stewardship in all engineering practices.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by operational needs.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as necessary.
