Curtinmaritime is seeking an experienced OSV Engineer to join our dynamic team in Long Beach, California. What you'll do
- Design and develop engineering solutions for offshore support vessels, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of vessel systems, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary modifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including naval architects, marine engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of vessel systems, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and maintenance manuals, to support operational activities.
- Participate in the planning and execution of dry-docking and major repair projects, coordinating with various stakeholders to minimize downtime.
- Monitor vessel performance and operational data, providing insights and recommendations to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices, integrating new knowledge into engineering processes and practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to crew members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate vessel systems effectively.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety management systems, promoting a culture of safety and compliance within the organization.
- Engage in continuous professional development, pursuing relevant certifications and training to enhance personal and organizational capabilities.
- Contribute to the preparation of project budgets and schedules, ensuring that engineering activities align with overall project timelines and financial goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering roles related to offshore support vessels or similar maritime operations.
- Strong understanding of marine systems, including propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven experience in project management, with the ability to lead engineering projects from conception to completion.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar applications.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and guidelines relevant to offshore operations, including ABS, DNV GL, and USCG regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve common goals.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support vessel operations and projects.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or an MBA with a focus on maritime operations.
- Experience with advanced technologies such as automation, remote monitoring, and digital twin applications in maritime engineering.
- Previous experience in a leadership role, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices in the maritime industry.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) or similar accreditation.
