About the role

Bamboohr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Project Management & Controls to lead our project management efforts in Long Beach, California. This pivotal role will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of various maritime projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in project management within the maritime or construction sectors and will be responsible for developing and implementing project controls processes that drive efficiency and effectiveness across all initiatives.

What you'll do

Lead and manage a team of project managers and controls specialists, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure professional growth and development.
Develop and implement project management methodologies and best practices to enhance project delivery and performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Establish and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations, monitoring progress and making adjustments as necessary to meet project milestones.
Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential project challenges and uncertainties.
Prepare and present regular project status reports to senior management, stakeholders, and clients, ensuring transparency and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate collaboration and ensure project success.
Utilize project management software and tools to track project performance, analyze data, and generate reports for informed decision-making.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the project management function, identifying opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency gains.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance protocols throughout all project phases.
Participate in contract negotiations and manage contractual obligations to protect the interests of Bamboohr.
Lead post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and best practices for future projects.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field; a master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PgMP) is preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the maritime or construction industries.
Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects from inception to completion, demonstrating strong organizational and leadership skills.
In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and software, with a focus on project controls and performance management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Familiarity with contract management and negotiation processes, as well as an understanding of legal and regulatory requirements in the maritime sector.

Nice to have

Experience with international projects or working in a multicultural environment.
Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
Knowledge of Lean and Agile methodologies and their application in project management.
Previous experience in a maritime or offshore engineering environment.
Understanding of environmental and sustainability practices relevant to maritime operations.
