About the Incubator

Atlas Computing is building an incubator for career professionals who want to own a specific intervention against advanced AI risks. If you have spent the last decade or more focused on AI security and related safety topics, this is a structured path to design, launch, and scale a new effort where you act as the founding lead. Atlas Computing provides initial support so you can lower the personal cost of leaving your current career and reduce the risk that a valuable idea never launches.

We describe this role as a tiger team that identifies and scopes interventions that are not a good fit for existing organizations. We also function as a design studio that produces product requirement documents for coordination and market failures, and as a think tank partnered with a tech transfer function. Atlas Computing will recruit and empower you to lead the intervention you create.

Incubator Structure and Timeline

The incubator targets professionals with extensive experience in AI risk or security fields. Atlas Computing will incubate a cohort of founders, each scoping a different potential intervention. You will receive support to move from a rough problem statement to a fundable plan. The timeline is flexible: you may take six months to two years, and early graduation is possible when your plan is ready. The objective is to reach a point where your effort can stand on its own, defined by a fundable proposal, a committed founding team, expert advisors, and a clear scaling path.

You will develop an ambitious plan that includes conditionally committed users or stakeholders, an excellent founding team, and documented expert advisors. Completion is achieved when you can present a compelling case to funders such as Coefficient Giving, with a team in place and a roadmap to scale impact to at least $10 million or more.

What You Will Do

You will coordinate the full journey of a high impact AI risk intervention from problem framing through funding and team assembly. This involves designing initial scoping sessions to clarify the nature and scale of the risk. You will conduct structured interviews with domain experts to map valid intervention pathways and surface critical uncertainties. Mapping stakeholder relationships will help validate problem assumptions before significant resources are committed.

You will draft product requirement documents that translate abstract concepts into testable plans. This includes building founding teams and assembling advisory boards aligned with each intervention theme. You will also establish conditionally committed users and feedback loops to ensure the intervention responds to real needs. A core responsibility is preparing grant ready materials for funders such as Coefficient Giving, clearly articulating cost effectiveness and scalability. You will refine project milestones and create scaling roadmaps that move from pilot to substantial impact. Negotiating scope with experts will balance ambition with practical execution, and you will ship pilot programs that demonstrate early traction.

Location, Travel, and Logistics

Atlas Computing is primarily a remote organization. We have plans to establish local hubs in San Francisco, Washington DC, London, and Tel Aviv. If you are interested in relocating to one of these hubs, we can discuss relocation support. Travel is likely to be 5 to 20 percent of your time, focused on team offsites in hubs and relevant conferences.

Compensation and Commitment

The compensation for this role is 180,000 USD for a two year engagement. This full time position is designed to remove financial barriers so you can focus on creating and launching a high use intervention.

Requirements

You must have ten or more years of experience in AI risk or closely related security domains. You are prepared to dedicate your expertise to the most critical societal risks posed by growing AI capabilities. You are willing to lower personal and procedural barriers so a viable idea can move from concept to a fundable plan. You can operate without rigid deadlines and know when an effort is complete.
