What you'll do
- Assist in the collection and analysis of geological samples from various field sites, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Conduct geological surveys and mapping, utilizing advanced tools and techniques to gather accurate data.
- Collaborate with senior geologists to interpret geological data and contribute to project reports and presentations.
- Participate in site assessments and evaluations, identifying potential geological hazards and resources.
- Maintain and organize field equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness for fieldwork activities.
- Document field observations and findings meticulously, preparing detailed reports for review by project leads.
- Engage in data entry and management, utilizing software tools to analyze and visualize geological data.
- Support environmental assessments by conducting soil and water sampling, as well as analyzing the impact of geological factors on local ecosystems.
- Assist in the preparation of permits and compliance documents for geological projects, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving field methodologies and project outcomes.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in geological research and technology, integrating new knowledge into daily work.
- Foster a culture of safety and teamwork within the field crew, promoting best practices and effective communication.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in geological fieldwork or a related role.
- Familiarity with geological mapping techniques and data collection methods.
- Proficiency in using geological software and tools for data analysis and visualization.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex geological data.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and rugged terrains.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with environmental assessments and understanding of regulatory compliance in geological projects.
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices.
- Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and GIS applications in geology.
- Previous experience in a consulting environment or with a focus on resource management.
- Certification or training in safety practices related to fieldwork.
Skills & tools
The ideal candidate will be proficient in geological software such as ArcGIS, RockWorks, or similar tools. Familiarity with data management systems and Microsoft Office Suite is essential. Strong field skills, including the use of GPS devices, compasses, and geological sampling equipment, are critical for success in this role.
