About the role
Coderio is seeking a Technical Lead to define and own the architecture, technical direction, and delivery of an event-driven microservices platform built on AWS. This role demands deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, AWS, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures, blending hands-on development with technical leadership. The successful hire will mentor engineers, establish technical standards, and ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and high-performing. You will partner with business and product stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions. The position requires driving observability, resilience, security, performance, and AWS cost optimization initiatives across the platform. You will evaluate emerging technologies, remove technical blockers, and support the long-term evolution of our core platform. This is a strategic role where your technical decisions will have a direct and significant impact on the company's infrastructure and product capabilities.

What you'll do
Define and own the architecture of Java/Spring Boot microservices and distributed systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical best practices.
Lead the design of event-driven solutions, including messaging, streaming, and distributed transaction patterns to meet complex functional requirements.
Establish API standards, governance, versioning strategies, and integration best practices to ensure consistency across all services.
Guide engineering teams through technical decisions, code reviews, and delivery execution to maintain high quality and on-time delivery.
Partner with business and product stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into scalable, reliable, and cost-effective technical solutions.
Drive observability, resilience, security, performance, and AWS cost optimization initiatives by implementing monitoring, tracing, and alerting solutions.
Evaluate technologies, remove technical blockers, and support long-term platform evolution by researching and prototyping new approaches.
Define and implement disaster recovery and high-availability strategies to ensure system reliability and business continuity.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize technical debt reduction and infrastructure improvements.
Champion the adoption of cloud-native patterns and AWS services to maximize scalability and operational efficiency.
Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning, code excellence, and knowledge sharing within the engineering organization.
Contribute to the recruitment and onboarding of new technical talent by conducting interviews and defining technical hiring criteria.
Ensure all technical deliverables comply with security, compliance, and data protection standards.
Act as a key technical contact for stakeholders, providing clear communication on project status, risks, and dependencies.
Requirements
10+ years of backend engineering experience, including 4+ years leading development teams or technical initiatives in a professional setting.
Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture design, with a strong understanding of core Spring modules and dependency injection principles.
Strong experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures using AWS services such as Kinesis, SQS, and SNS for reliable messaging.
Hands-on experience with distributed transactions, saga patterns, and orchestration strategies to manage consistency across services.
Strong AWS architecture experience, including API Gateway, DynamoDB, IAM, compute, networking, and security services for building secure solutions.
Proven ability to define and implement observability strategies using monitoring, tracing, and alerting tools to ensure system health.
Demonstrated ability to lead engineers, drive technical decisions, and establish development standards that improve team productivity.
Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments, with a focus on continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
Nice to have
Experience with Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS for container orchestration and managing scalable workloads.
Experience with orchestration platforms such as Temporal, Camunda, or AWS Step Functions for managing complex workflows.
Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD expertise using tools like Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, and Jenkins.
Financial services or payments industry experience, with an understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development, LLM-based solutions, MCP, RAG, and AI governance practices to enhance engineering productivity.

This is a fully on-site position based in Miami, Florida. Candidates must currently reside in the Miami area.
Engagement is offered as a long-term contract with hybrid work expectations.
