About the role
You will own the implementation of cutting edge rendering features that directly shape the visual fidelity and performance of BioShock within Unreal Engine
5. Your work will define how light, material, and atmosphere behave in the game world, ensuring that art direction is realized with technical precision. You will partner closely with art direction and technical artists to deconstruct creative vision and convert it into robust, maintainable rendering solutions. This role demands that you analyze complex rendering challenges and architect performant fixes that scale across console and PC hardware. You will mentor junior engineers, elevating the technical capabilities of the entire rendering team. Ultimately, your contributions will ensure that the richly imagined world of BioShock feels immersive, consistent, and visually compelling from every perspective.

What you'll do
Implement advanced rendering techniques that align with art direction and narrative tone.
Integrate and adapt third party rendering solutions to fit the constraints of console pipelines.
Profile and analyze rendering performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks across diverse hardware.
Collaborate with technical artists to develop shaders that meet artistic requirements while remaining efficient.
Refactor legacy shader code to improve readability, stability, and long term maintainability.
Work alongside engineers from other disciplines to synchronize rendering changes with gameplay systems.
Establish and maintain debugging workflows using graphics tools to validate visual correctness and performance.
Drive optimization strategies that reduce draw calls, memory usage, and GPU time without sacrificing fidelity.
Evaluate emerging rendering technologies and propose integrations that advance the technical capabilities of the project.
Mentor junior rendering engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and shared best practices.
Participate in the full content creation loop, ensuring that tools and pipelines support efficient artist workflows.
Champion best practices for rendering architecture to ensure scalability across future BioShock projects.
Continuously research and evaluate new rendering techniques that can be leveraged to differentiate the visual quality of the game.
Act as a technical liaison between engineering, art, and design to align on ambitious creative goals.
Contribute to the development roadmap by providing realistic technical assessments and risk analysis for rendering features.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
Bring a minimum of 5 years of professional industry experience in rendering or graphics engineering.
Demonstrate a proven track record of shipping at least one AAA console and or PC game.
Operate effectively in a senior role with prior experience as a Graphics or Rendering Engineer.
Exhibit strong 3D math skills essential for implementing correct lighting, shading, and transformation calculations.
Showcase strong C and C++ programming skills to write robust, high performance rendering code.
Possess hands on experience with modern GPUs and low level graphics APIs targeting the latest generation of gaming platforms.
Apply expertise using graphics debugging tools and performance profiling techniques to diagnose rendering issues.
Show strong familiarity with current Unreal Engine rendering technologies and workflows.
Have exposure to third party tools such as Houdini, Substance Painter, and Z-Brush within a production graphics pipeline.
Display meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain high quality under tight deadlines.
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
Work reliably under pressure, managing multiple priorities while maintaining consistent output quality.
Build trust based relationships across disciplines through active listening and constructive collaboration.

Practical notes
The pay range for this position in California at the start of employment is expected to be between $108,900 - $161,160 per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and or equity awards and eligibility to participate in our 401K plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program.
