About the role
You will join Cloud Chamber as a Senior Rendering Programmer to help define and execute the visual vision for the BioShock series using Unreal Engine
5. In this role you will own the implementation of rendering features from initial concept through production integration. You will work closely with artists, designers, and engineers to translate creative direction into high performance graphical solutions. A key part of your responsibility will involve mentoring team members and elevating the technical capabilities of the rendering group. Ultimately, your work will directly shape the immersive and emotionally impactful worlds that define the BioShock experience.

What you'll do
- Execute creative technical solutions based on concept art and art direction to maintain visual fidelity across platforms.
- Translate art direction into rendering code, shaders, and systems that integrate seamlessly within the existing engine pipeline.
- Create new tools and efficient pipelines for content production to streamline artist workflows and iteration speed.
- Debug visual and performance issues related to rendering across a wide range of hardware configurations.
- Effectively communicate with artists and designers towards performant solutions that meet both creative and technical goals.
- Actively improve skill sets and abilities by keeping aware of industry trends, and learn new techniques relevant to real-time graphics.
- Mentor junior programmers in rendering techniques, debugging practices, and code quality standards.
- Collaborate with the Lead Rendering Programmer to establish best practices and architectural decisions for rendering systems.
- Partner with Technical Artists to develop shaders, materials, and effects that align with the artistic vision.
- Investigate and integrate third-party solutions that can enhance the rendering capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
- Optimize rendering performance for console and PC platforms to ensure consistent frame rates and memory efficiency.
- Implement advanced rendering techniques such as lighting, shadows, reflections, and post-processing effects.
- Review and refactor existing rendering code to improve maintainability, scalability, and clarity.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to uphold high engineering standards.
- Contribute to the technical documentation for rendering systems and tools to support knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline with a strong foundation in computer graphics.
- Bring 5+ years of industry or related experience with a focus on real-time rendering and graphics programming.
- Demonstrate experience shipping at least one AAA console and/or PC game through a complete production cycle.
- Show previous experience working in a senior role as a Graphics or Rendering Programmer on at least one major title.
- Possess strong 3D Math skills including linear algebra, vectors, matrices, and transformation operations.
- Have strong C/C++ experience with a deep understanding of memory management, templates, and the STL.
- Show experience with modern GPUs and low level graphics APIs such as DirectX 12, Vulkan, or equivalent on the latest generation of gaming platforms.
- Demonstrate experience using graphics debugging tools and performance profiling to diagnose rendering bottlenecks.
- Show strong understanding and familiarity with current Unreal Engine technology, including its rendering architecture and pipeline.
- Have exposure to third-party tools like Houdini, Substance Painter, and Z-Brush in terms of how they can function in a graphics pipeline.
- Understand the constraints and capabilities of console hardware and how they impact rendering strategies.
- Have experience working in a collaborative, Agile development environment with cross-functional teams.
- Show ability to write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that adheres to team standards.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of problem-solving under pressure and delivering high-quality results on schedule.

- Exposure to third-party tools like Houdini, Substance Painter, and Z-Brush in terms of how they can function in a graphics pipeline is a bonus.
