About the role

In this position, you will be instrumental in developing the foundational infrastructure that supports our agentic features. This includes the agent's cognitive functions, evaluation mechanisms, and the interface for integrating external AI models. Your contributions will directly influence the systems that empower our agents to function effectively, impacting over 11,000 paying customers who rely on our platform.

What you'll do

• Design and implement capabilities for code execution within our assistant, facilitating the generation of visual data representations such as charts and tables, as well as enabling interactions with external APIs.
• Build a comprehensive evaluation and observability framework that goes beyond traditional unit testing to assess and enhance agent performance.
• Enhance the user interface generated by our models, allowing large language models (LLMs) to choose and display suitable visualizations and artifacts effectively.
• Lead the development of Custom Agents from their initial design phase to full deployment, enabling real-time processing of CRM events and intelligent drafting of responses.
• Integrate deterministic sales methodologies with probabilistic decision-making processes to ensure both reliability and intelligent outcomes.
• Tackle critical edge cases that affect agent trust, such as managing the depletion of AI credits and ensuring tasks are completed successfully.
• Select and oversee the use of various AI models, optimizing them for cost efficiency and performance across different tasks and service providers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the systems you develop align with the overall product vision and meet customer needs.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI and backend engineering to continually improve the systems you work on.
• Document your work thoroughly to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Significant experience as a senior engineer, with a strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with other programming languages such as Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• A proven history of delivering impactful AI-driven features to end-users, demonstrating a solid grasp of retrieval techniques, evaluation methods, tool design, and context engineering.
• Regular use of AI tools in your daily tasks to boost productivity and enhance code quality.
• A proactive builder's mindset, emphasizing the importance of delivering functional versions to users rather than getting caught up in extensive pre-development planning.
• Experience in troubleshooting production issues, taking ownership of critical systems, or being part of on-call rotations for services that directly impact customers.
• Understanding of AI research concepts like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), and fine-tuning, with the ability to evaluate their applicability to real-world challenges.
• Comfort in working with probabilistic systems and the flexibility to adapt traditional engineering practices to suit these environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms and services, enhancing deployment and scalability of applications.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes to streamline development and deployment processes.
• Knowledge of modern database systems and data modeling techniques, particularly with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Previous involvement in projects that required collaboration with AI researchers or data scientists.
• Understanding of user experience (UX) principles to contribute to the design of intuitive interfaces for agent interactions.

Skills & tools

Proficient in Python, with experience in Temporal, LangFuse, Pydantic, ElevenLabs, MCP, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and various large language models (LLMs).
