What you'll do
- Provide comprehensive prenatal care, including routine check-ups, screenings, and assessments to monitor the health of both mother and baby.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs.
- Educate expectant mothers on prenatal health, nutrition, and wellness practices to promote healthy pregnancies.
- Conduct thorough health assessments and document medical histories to identify any potential risks or complications during pregnancy.
- Facilitate access to additional resources, such as lactation consultants, mental health support, and parenting classes, to enhance the overall care experience.
- Assist in the development and implementation of community outreach programs aimed at improving maternal health awareness and education.
- Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in perinatal care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and their families throughout the pregnancy and postpartum periods.
- Coordinate with insurance providers to ensure coverage for services rendered and assist patients with navigating their insurance benefits.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction within the perinatal program.
- Attend interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and collaborate on care strategies.
Requirements
- A degree in nursing, midwifery, or a related healthcare field, with a focus on maternal and child health.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in perinatal care or a related clinical setting.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in the state of California.
- Strong knowledge of prenatal care guidelines, maternal health issues, and best practices in perinatal services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and providing compassionate care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare technologies.
Nice to have
- Certification in perinatal nursing or a related specialty.
- Experience in community health education or outreach programs.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another language to better serve diverse patient populations.
- Familiarity with telehealth services and virtual care delivery models.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a healthcare setting.
