As a Prime Brokerage Risk Manager, you will be a vital part of the risk management team, responsible for overseeing risk across various business lines, including equities and fixed income. Your role will involve developing and implementing risk frameworks, monitoring exposures, and working closely with internal teams and clients to ensure risk controls. Key facts
What you'll do
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding onboarding, risk assessments, and ongoing risk management issues, ensuring clear communication and effective resolution of risk-related concerns.
- Oversee intraday risk exposures, monitor margin requirements, and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards for client portfolios across multiple asset classes.
- Use order management systems (OMS) and risk management platforms to continuously monitor global market movements, portfolio exposures, and risk metrics, providing timely escalation of significant issues to senior management.
- Develop, refine, and implement margin, risk, and stress-testing methodologies to accurately measure and manage client and firm-wide risk.
- Generate detailed reports and dashboards, automating data collection and analysis processes to identify key risk factors, portfolio concentrations, and potential vulnerabilities.
- Share critical risk insights with senior risk management teams and external clients, providing guidance and recommendations to mitigate potential losses and optimize risk-return profiles.
- Support initiatives aimed at enhancing the firm's risk and margin platforms, working with cross-functional teams including technology, trading, and compliance to implement improvements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure risk policies are aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements, contributing to the ongoing development of risk management frameworks.
- Assist in the review and approval of new client onboarding, ensuring all risk parameters are properly set and documented.
- Participate in regular risk review meetings, presenting findings, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of risk models, stress scenarios, and margin calculations, ensuring they reflect current market conditions and regulatory expectations.
- Maintain a strong understanding of global market developments, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to inform risk management strategies.
- Work closely with engineering teams to improve risk infrastructure, including automation of reporting and real-time risk monitoring tools.
- Support the training and development of junior team members, sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative team environment.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in prime brokerage risk, trading risk, or related roles, with a focus on equities and fixed income assets.
- At least 8 years of overall experience working within the financial services sector, demonstrating a solid understanding of trading and risk management processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
- Deep understanding of equity and fixed income products, including options, derivatives, and related risk metrics such as Greeks, VaR, and stress testing.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and capital/margin regulations applicable to prime brokerage and risk management.
- Experience with Python and SQL for data analysis, automation, and reporting purposes is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with clients, internal teams, and regulators.
- Proactive attitude with a collaborative approach, demonstrating the ability to work well within a team and independently.
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to lead initiatives and work cross-functionally with technology, trading, and compliance teams.
- Excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and a strong quantitative background.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining risk policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Bloomberg, ICE, and FactSet is advantageous.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working in a cloud-native environment or with cloud-based risk management systems.
- Knowledge of industry regulations such as MiFID II, Dodd-Frank, or Basel III.
- Experience working with real-time risk monitoring and automation tools.
- Exposure to multi-asset class risk management, including derivatives and structured products.
- Understanding of ITAR regulations and compliance considerations in risk management systems.
