Senior / Staff Full-Stack Product Engineer
Job description
About the role
Clear Street is rebuilding the brokerage world. Founded in 2018, the firm replaces legacy market infrastructure with a cloud-native clearing and custody system built for today's global environment. The platform integrates directly with clearing houses and exchanges, processing billions in daily volume. It is defined by data model rigor, horizontal scalability, and carefully designed APIs that deliver a first-class client experience.
The Active team exists to provide best execution across every asset class and market. It is creating a new, cloud-based trading platform that gives professional traders high-performance access to liquidity venues, advanced charting, and sophisticated order handling. The work supports both active trader instincts and institutional workflows with equal precision.
The role focuses on building a first-class web experience for sophisticated retail traders on an AI-native active trading platform. You will own core active trading workflows, including order entry, positions and holdings, blotter and activity views, watchlists, alerts, and high-information-density dashboards. You will create AI-native UI patterns that inspire trust, using streaming answers, grounded citations and context, uncertainty signaling, pre-trade confirmations, and safe undo or rollback flows where appropriate. You will work closely with users and stakeholders to define features, iterate quickly, and drive projects to completion. Collaboration with backend engineers is essential to design clean contracts for low-latency trading interactions and AI tool integration. You will develop a deep understanding of trading markets and translate that domain knowledge into intuitive, powerful experiences.
The technology stack relies on TypeScript, React for web, React Native for mobile, modern frontend tooling, backend services written in Rust, and Postgres.
To succeed, you need at least eight years of professional experience and strong proficiency in at least one language, with preferred expertise in TypeScript and React. You must understand computer science fundamentals and practical UI engineering, including performance, state management, and component architecture. Experience with complex, data-dense product surfaces-such as dashboards, analytics interfaces, trading-like workflows, or other high-stakes UX-is required. You must be able to collaborate with stakeholders to design, implement, and deliver end-to-end features. A high degree of self-motivation and comfort in unfamiliar problem spaces is necessary.
Experience in trading, fintech, or other high-availability, low-latency product environments is valuable. Background designing AI assistant and copilot interactions-including tool calls, confirmations, citations and grounding, and failure handling-will strengthen your contribution. Deep familiarity with trading across asset classes and margin types is appreciated. Real-time streaming UI patterns and performance optimization under high update rates are relevant. Experience with backend services in Rust and Postgres is a bonus.
Clear Street offers a base salary in the range of $200,000 to $350,000, reflecting experience, skills, and location. This range represents base compensation only and does not include bonuses or equity. The company provides competitive packages, company equity, 401k matching, gender-neutral parental leave, and full medical, dental, and vision insurance.
What you'll do
- Own the implementation of core active trading workflows, encompassing order entry, positions and holdings, blotter and activity views, watchlists, alerts, and high-information-density dashboards.
- Architect and build AI-native user interface patterns that inspire trust, incorporating streaming answers, grounded citations and context, uncertainty signaling, pre-trade confirmations, and safe undo or rollback flows where appropriate.
- Collaborate closely with users and stakeholders to translate evolving product requirements into robust, production-ready features while iterating quickly and driving projects to completion.
- Partner with backend engineers to design and validate clean contracts for low-latency trading interactions and seamless AI tool integration, ensuring alignment between frontend and backend systems.
- Develop a deep, practical understanding of trading markets and asset classes, and apply this domain knowledge to create intuitive, powerful, and precise user experiences.
- Champion component architecture and state management strategies that maximize performance, reliability, and maintainability within complex, data-dense product surfaces.
- Elevate the user experience by focusing on high-information-density dashboards and analytics interfaces that deliver clarity and speed under demanding conditions.
- Ensure UI responsiveness and fluidity even under high update rates, leveraging real-time streaming UI patterns and performance optimization techniques where necessary.

- Possess the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to design, implement, and deliver end-to-end features from conception through launch.
- Operate with a high degree of self-motivation and comfort in unfamiliar problem spaces, navigating ambiguity while maintaining a focus on execution.
- Demonstrate a track record of building and sustaining systems that require high availability and performant under pressure, mirroring the demands of trading and fintech environments.
- Apply a strong sense of product ownership and accountability, seeing initiatives through from design considerations to implementation details and user feedback.
