What you'll do

Redesign the information architecture of mortgage screening tools to help hiring teams evaluate candidates efficiently and reduce decision fatigue. Define and iterate on end-to-end mortgage screening journeys in partnership with product managers, shaping how candidates are assessed for employment screening. Support usability testing for mortgage screening tools and synthesize qualitative feedback to refine the candidate evaluation experience. Ensure designs for mortgage screening meet accessibility and compliance standards for employment screening, protecting candidate data as required by regulation. Communicate design rationale and tradeoffs clearly to engineering and cross-functional partners so the team can implement accurate screening flows for CheckrX. Design user flows and interfaces for mortgage screening tools used by hiring teams, where these interfaces directly affect how hiring teams interact with candidates and interpret screening outcomes. Break down complex mortgage screening requirements into coherent interaction models that balance legal constraints with user needs. Partner with researchers and data scientists to incorporate insights about risk and fairness into the design of screening interfaces. Maintain consistency across the design system to ensure that mortgage screening experiences remain reliable and predictable for enterprise users. Advocate for the hiring team user throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery through launch and post-launch iteration.

Requirements

You must exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with engineering, product, and stakeholders on complex screening workflows, ensuring alignment between design intent and implementation for employment screening. You must understand the constraints of enterprise software, security considerations, and accessibility best practices for hiring teams, which are essential for compliant and secure screening. You must be able to translate ambiguous problems into structured design solutions while maintaining a clear line of sight to user needs and business goals. You must have a strong sense of ownership for the user experience, including advocating for usability, clarity, and fairness in screening interactions. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where requirements evolve as new insights emerge from user research and stakeholder feedback. You must demonstrate experience designing for regulated domains where data privacy and employment law intersect with product decisions. You must be able to work independently and make sound design decisions with incomplete information, escalating risks clearly and proactively. You must build trust with cross-functional partners by showing up prepared, listening actively, and following through on commitments. You must bring a portfolio that demonstrates deep thinking around problem framing, constraints, and iteration in previous design work. You must be proficient in design tooling such as Figma and collaboration platforms used in fast-paced product teams.

Nice to have

Preferred experience in mortgage, financial services, or background screening domains to better understand domain-specific constraints. Prior experience conducting or synthesizing usability testing with hiring teams or compliance stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to design for accessibility at a sophisticated level, going beyond basic compliance. Experience contributing to or maintaining design systems in enterprise products. Familiarity with data pipelines, risk models, or AI-assisted decision tools that feed into screening workflows.

Practical notes

The role is based in San Francisco and requires in-person presence. Typical interview steps include design interviews that usually consist of a portfolio review, a design exercise, and a team conversation. Candidates are expected to present past work and explain their process and decisions, with some loops including a live design challenge. Communication matters as much as the visual output, and portfolios are strongest when they show the problem, the constraints, and the iteration, not just the final screens.
