What you'll do

1 Review current system designs and recommend improvements to overall architecture and performance.

2 Partner with engineering groups to establish technical standards and development guidelines.

3 Produce clear architectural documentation for both new and existing solution designs.

4 Facilitate design review sessions and offer guidance to development teams on best practices.

5 Convert business needs into concrete technical specifications and system-level designs.

6 Research and evaluate emerging technologies for possible integration into the organization.

7 Partner with project managers to assess timelines and identify potential technical risks.

8 Provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers on architectural matters.

9 Verify that all solutions meet standards for security, scalability, and reliability.

10 Work across departments to address integration issues between different systems and platforms.

11 Stay informed about industry developments and evolving architectural approaches and patterns.

12 Develop visual models and diagrams that clearly communicate system structure to various audiences.

13 Collaborate with security teams to ensure that architectural decisions incorporate appropriate threat modeling.

14 Maintain a repository of architectural patterns and reusable components for the engineering organization.

Requirements

1 Substantial experience in a solution architect role or equivalent technical leadership position within a technology organization.

2 Solid knowledge of distributed systems, cloud environments, and enterprise architecture principles.

3 Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical listeners.

4 A history of delivering architectural designs that successfully meet business and technical goals.

5 Familiarity with API design, microservices patterns, and data pipeline construction.

6 A Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a closely related discipline.

7 Comfort with infrastructure-as-code methods and modern DevOps practices and workflows across distributed environments.

8 The ability to manage several projects at once and set priorities among competing needs.

9 Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows in a team setting.

10 Ability to travel occasionally for on-site meetings with clients or cross-functional partners as needed.

1 Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies in live production environments and settings.

2 Background in industries with regulatory requirements such as healthcare or financial services.

Skills & tools

1 Working knowledge of modeling languages like UML or ArchiMate for documenting system designs.

2 Familiarity with major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

3 Experience using monitoring and observability tools for tracking distributed system health and performance.

4 Competence in scripting languages including Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.

5 Understanding of networking basics including DNS resolution, load balancing, and firewall configuration.

6 Familiarity with both relational databases and NoSQL data stores in production environments.

7 Proficiency with diagramming tools such as draw.io or similar platforms for creating architecture visuals.

8 Awareness of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools for managing application deployments.
