About the role
Bamboohr is seeking a Senior Azure Solution Architect to take ownership of cloud architecture design and strategy across the organization. In this role, you will define the technical vision for Azure-based solutions and guide engineering teams through the full lifecycle of cloud application design and deployment. The architect will work hand-in-hand with product managers, developers, and operations staff to ensure that every solution meets the highest standards of reliability, security, and scalability. This is a full-time position that demands both strategic thinking and deep hands-on technical expertise in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. Candidates in this role will have the opportunity to shape the long-term cloud strategy and influence how engineering teams across the company approach system design and infrastructure decisions.

What you'll do
Design comprehensive Azure cloud architectures for large-scale enterprise applications and microservices
Evaluate existing infrastructure landscapes and create detailed migration roadmaps to the Azure platform
Partner with development squads to embed cloud-native design patterns into everyday engineering workflows
Produce architectural diagrams and reference implementations that serve as templates for future projects
Perform thorough technical design reviews to verify compliance with organizational Azure governance standards
Assess and recommend specific Azure services based on performance benchmarks, cost projections, and security needs
Drive proof-of-concept initiatives to test emerging Azure capabilities before broader production rollout
Work alongside network and security engineers to establish connectivity models and identity access frameworks
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior architects and mid-level cloud engineers
Communicate architectural rationale and design trade-offs to both engineering leads and business stakeholders
Stay current with Microsoft Azure service announcements and assess their relevance to ongoing initiatives
Define and enforce resource governance policies including tagging strategies, naming conventions, and cost allocation
Collaborate with data engineering teams to design Azure data lake and analytics pipeline architectures
Review and approve Terraform and Bicep modules before they are merged into shared infrastructure repositories
Evaluate vendor and third-party service integrations to ensure they align with the Azure architecture roadmap
Requirements
Demonstrated track record of designing and operating production workloads on Microsoft Azure at enterprise scale
Deep knowledge of core Azure services spanning compute, networking, storage, and identity and access management
Hands-on proficiency with Infrastructure as Code approaches using Terraform, Bicep, or Azure Resource Manager templates
Practical experience implementing Azure security controls such as role-based access control and network isolation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex technical material to varied audiences
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, or comparable hands-on experience
History of leading architectural decision-making processes and shaping technical direction across distributed teams
Strong foundation in networking concepts including DNS resolution, load balancing, virtual networks, and traffic routing
Experience with Azure governance frameworks including Azure Policy, Blueprints, and resource lock mechanisms
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where architectural decisions must balance speed with long-term maintainability
Ability to work independently and make sound architectural judgments with minimal supervision
Nice to have
Active Azure certifications including Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate credentials
Practical experience configuring Azure DevOps pipelines and integrating continuous delivery workflows for cloud-native apps
Working knowledge of container orchestration platforms such as Azure Kubernetes Service and Docker container runtimes
Exposure to regulated industry environments with adherence requirements like HIPAA, SOC 2, or ISO 27001
Experience with Azure Sentinel or other security information and event management platforms for threat detection
Skills & tools
Microsoft Azure portal, Azure Resource Manager, and Azure CLI for day-to-day platform operations
Terraform or Bicep for writing declarative infrastructure definitions and managing resource lifecycles
Azure Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID for configuring authentication, authorization, and single sign-on
Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for monitoring, logging, and performance diagnostics
PowerShell and Azure CLI for scripting automation tasks and operational troubleshooting
Azure Cost Management, budgets, and resource tagging for tracking and optimizing cloud spending
Azure Key Vault and managed identities for secrets management and credential protection
Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipeline configuration and release management
Azure Logic Apps and Durable Functions for building event-driven and workflow automation solutions

This position reports into the engineering leadership group and participates in a cross-functional team structure
