Computer Security Architect

About the role

As a , you will play a crucial role in enhancing the security posture of the organization. This position involves maintaining and expanding the functionality of the Security Operations Centre, which serves as the central hub for incident detection and response. Additionally, you will be responsible for securing CERN's external cloud services, including AWS and Oracle Cloud, while also reviewing the configurations of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Google Cloud Platform, and Google Workspace.

What you'll do

• Actively maintain, support, and enhance the incident detection and response infrastructure of the Computer Security Office, utilizing open-source technologies such as Zeek, OpenSearch, Apache Kafka, Kubernetes, and MISP.
• Configure newly contracted external cloud services, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and Oracle, ensuring that their functionalities and data are optimized for security.
• Assess and improve the security posture of existing Microsoft and Google SaaS cloud configurations at CERN.
• Collaborate on various computer security projects managed by the Computer Security Office, contributing your expertise and insights.
• Provide consultancy and advice on computer security matters, including conducting penetration testing to identify vulnerabilities.
• Engage in monitoring and responding to security threats and incidents affecting ICT systems, ensuring timely and effective action.
• Participate in the development and integration of IT security features within cloud environments, adhering to best practices for secure software development.
• Document security processes and configurations, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and facilitating knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• Proven experience in network design, along with a solid understanding of communication technologies and protocols.
• Background in the administration of computing systems, including installation, operation, and maintenance (both preventive and corrective).
• Demonstrated expertise in computer security, secure configurations, security analysis, and penetration testing, particularly in cloud environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring and responding to security incidents and threats within ICT systems is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems, virtualization, databases, and proficiency in shell scripting and programming languages such as Python and/or C.
• Understanding of cloud frameworks like Kubernetes and best practices for developing secure software in AWS, Google, and Microsoft cloud environments.
• Proficient in spoken and written English, with a willingness to learn French.
• Eligibility to apply as a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State, with a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science or a related field.

Practical notes

• The position requires a commitment to stand-by duty as needed by the organization.

• The contract duration is set for 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months.
• Working hours are 40 hours per week, with a target start date of October 1, 2026.
