About the role

As an IT Support Officer at CERN, you will join the Communication, Outreach and Education (COE) section within the Department Infrastructure group (IT-DI). This role is pivotal in enhancing the connection between CERN, the scientific community, students, and the public. You will engage in various initiatives aimed at improving the accessibility and usability of CERN's digital resources, while also supporting the organization of significant events that showcase CERN's groundbreaking work.

What you'll do

• Participate actively in the COE section's initiatives focused on Education, Communication, and Outreach.
• Contribute to the redesign of the CERN IT website by assisting with the migration to WordPress and developing a new information architecture to enhance user experience for diverse audiences.
• Support the organization of events, including conferences and CERN Open Days, by streamlining processes and providing back-office assistance.
• Collaborate in the development of new departmental infrastructure, utilizing existing CERN repositories to manage resources for inductions, visits, and events, allowing you to influence system design from inception.
• Engage with various stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback to improve digital resources and event organization.
• Assist in the creation of educational materials and resources that facilitate outreach to students and the general public.
• Work closely with IT-DI-COE team members to ensure effective communication and collaboration on projects.
• Stay updated on best practices in web accessibility and information architecture to enhance the usability of CERN's digital platforms.

Requirements

• Familiarity with content management systems, particularly WordPress or Drupal.
• Proficiency in productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with design tools like Canva or Linearity is advantageous.
• A background in scientific, research, innovation, or technology sectors is preferred.
• Basic understanding of web technologies, including HTML and CSS, is a plus.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with a willingness to learn French.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• A collaborative mindset, with the ability to take initiative and lead tasks when necessary.

Nice to have

• Experience in event organization or project management.
• Knowledge of modern approaches to information architecture and web accessibility.
• Familiarity with the scientific community or educational outreach initiatives.

• This position requires flexibility, including the possibility of working during nights, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
• The role is expected to start on October 1, 2026, and offers a contract duration of 24 months, with the potential for extension up to 36 months.
