About the role
You will architect and own the core infrastructure that powers our end-to-end platform serving thousands of laundry businesses nationwide. You will lead the design of our billing, payments, and revenue operations systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and security. You will partner closely with product and data teams to ensure our technology stack evolves in lockstep with business strategy. You will mentor engineers across the codebase, setting standards for quality, testing, and deployment. You will define and enforce the technical vision for our cloud-native infrastructure on AWS. You will take ownership of critical production services and be the go-to expert for complex, high-impact technical challenges. You will play a key role in shaping our engineering culture through code reviews, process improvements, and technical leadership. You will bridge the gap between our current monolithic systems and future microservices architecture to support rapid growth.

What you'll do
Design and implement scalable backend services that handle billing, payments, and transaction processing for a growing SMB platform.
Lead the migration of critical workloads from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures on AWS to improve resilience and performance.
Build and maintain internal tools that empower our sales and operations teams to manage customer lifecycles efficiently.
Collaborate with product managers to translate business requirements into robust technical specifications and implementation plans.
Own the reliability and monitoring of production systems, ensuring high availability and rapid incident response.
Develop integrations with third-party payment processors and banking APIs to streamline financial operations for our customers.
Implement security best practices and compliance controls to protect sensitive financial and personal data.
Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability, performance, and test coverage across the platform.
Partner with data teams to enable analytics and reporting capabilities that drive business decisions.
Champion engineering best practices, including automated testing, continuous integration, and infrastructure as code.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and career development conversations.
Evaluate and introduce new technologies and tools that enhance our development velocity and system reliability.
Lead cross-functional initiatives to solve complex problems that span engineering, product, and operations.
Document system architecture and processes to ensure clarity and continuity for the engineering team.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New York, NY, due to the nature of the role.
Must have at least 8 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering production-grade systems.
Must have deep expertise in backend development with proficiency in Python and at least one other language such as Java or Go.
Must have extensive experience designing, building, and operating SaaS platforms that handle billing and payments.
Must have hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda.
Must have a strong understanding of relational databases, SQL optimization, and database schema design.
Must have a proven ability to lead technical projects and influence engineering direction without relying on formal authority.
Must demonstrate a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code and enforcing high standards through code reviews.
Nice to have
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks is a plus for full-stack collaboration.
Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to financial services, such as PCI DSS.
Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures using tools like Kafka or SQS.
Background in fintech or SaaS billing systems is preferred.
Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading technical documentation efforts.

This is a full-time position based in New York, NY.
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for this role.
