About the role
The Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity (SP-ARE) Project Manager owns the end-to-end execution of a high-impact initiative within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This role serves as the central coordination point for the SP-ARE framework, driving forward a human-centered, trauma-informed approach to dismantling structural barriers. The position requires a proactive leader who can synthesize complex information and translate it into clear, actionable plans for cross-departmental teams. You will act as a critical thought partner, advising senior leadership on alignment and operationalizing racial equity across all workflows. Success in this role means ensuring that project activities not only meet compliance requirements but also authentically center the principles of health and racial equity. You will manage the dual responsibility of implementation and reporting, maintaining the integrity of data while fostering a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.

What you'll do
Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity (SP-ARE) in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Manage the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) reporting process, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of all required data and narratives.
Facilitate cross-departmental work groups, guiding discussions to align roles, responsibilities, and objectives related to racial equity initiatives.
Serve as a primary liaison between the SP-ARE team and key stakeholders, including the Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Health Equity and the Director of Performance Management and Quality Improvement.
Update and maintain the SharePoint site to reflect current project statuses, meeting notes, and resource materials for internal and external partners.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures for performance management systems to enhance tracking and reporting capabilities.
Monitor project timelines and deliverables, identifying risks early and recommending corrective actions to keep initiatives on track.
Provide regular status reports on key performance indicators, translating complex data into clear narratives for diverse audiences.
Act as a subject matter expert on project management methodologies, introducing tools and practices that improve efficiency and outcomes.
Champion a culture of learning and adaptation, ensuring that project strategies evolve based on feedback, data, and emerging best practices.
Requirements
Demonstrate a minimum of 5-7 years' experience in project management within public health or a related field.
Show excellence in written and verbal communication, with a proven ability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Bring skills and demonstrated experience in project management, racial equity, health equity, creative problem solving, and innovation.
Commit to the department's goals and values by reinforcing priorities that explicitly center racial equity, demonstrating inclusivity in all interactions.
Utilize strong technical skills and proficiency across Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, One Drive, One Note, Forms, Planner, Project, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Zoom.
Apply extensive knowledge and expertise in project management methodologies, tools, and resource management practices to meet organizational objectives.
Exercise excellent judgment and decision-making, supported by strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and business acumen.
Manage multiple timelines and priorities simultaneously, thriving in a complex environment while addressing competing demands.
Display the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, maintaining professionalism under tight deadlines.
Nice to have
Experience working directly with state government health departments.
Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and their application in project management.
Knowledge of data visualization tools to enhance reporting and stakeholder engagement.
Background in equity-focused policy development or program implementation.
Experience using Power Platform and advanced SharePoint features to build workflow solutions.
Practical notes
This is a hybrid position based in Massachusetts, with an expected end date of 06/30/2027. The role requires regular in-person collaboration while allowing for remote work where appropriate. Travel is primarily limited within the state for meetings and stakeholder engagements. No visa sponsorship is required as the position is based in the United States.
