About the role

The CDC Foundation is seeking a Chronic Disease Epidemiologist to provide essential epidemiologic support for the Office of Statistics and Evaluation within the Bureau of Community Health & Prevention in Massachusetts. This role focuses on strengthening chronic disease prevention efforts through rigorous data analysis and program evaluation. The hired individual will work in close partnership with community-based programs, including the Office of Community Health Workers and the Asthma Prevention and Control Program. They will translate complex health data into actionable insights that drive decision-making at the local level. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple priorities in a dynamic public health environment. The successful candidate will contribute directly to improving population health outcomes through data-driven strategies.

What you'll do

Design and execute epidemiologic analyses using SAS and/or R to address public health questions for community programs.

Develop and refine evaluation plans in collaboration with the Office of Community Health Workers and the Asthma Prevention and Control Program.

Create comprehensive reports and data visualization products to communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.

Analyze data from multiple sources, including hospital discharge records, mortality data, BRFSS, YRBS, YHS, and the Community Health Equity Survey.

Support the implementation of data collection instruments and ensure the quality of gathered public health information.

Assist programs within DCBPC in meeting grant deliverables and fulfilling specific reporting requirements.

Consult with epidemiologic colleagues to ensure the methodological appropriateness of analytical approaches.

Interpret statistical results and articulate limitations to non-technical program staff and partners.

Provide ongoing support for chronic disease surveillance activities and priority initiatives across the Bureau.

Adapt to shifting organizational needs and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.

Contribute to the development of data products that inform policy and resource allocation decisions.

Requirements

Hold a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology or biostatistics from an accredited institution.

Possess a minimum of two years of professional experience conducting epidemiologic work or related public health analysis.

Demonstrate superior knowledge of epidemiologic study designs and advanced statistical methodologies.

Show proficiency in conducting data analyses using statistical software such as SAS and/or R.

Have direct experience in designing and implementing program evaluations within public health settings.

Be skilled in applying a wide range of statistical methods, including multivariate linear and logistic regression.

Have hands-on experience with public health data collection, including the design and validation of data collection tools.

Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical audiences.

Be highly detail-oriented and process-driven in managing complex data workflows.

Demonstrate a proven ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines.

Previous experience working specifically with chronic disease data is preferred.

Nice to have

Experience working within state or local government public health departments.

Familiarity with community-based participatory research principles.

Knowledge of best practices in health equity and social determinants of health analysis.
