About the role
We are seeking an Autobody Technician with a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in wheel/rim repair to join our team at Carvana, the fastest-growing used automotive retailer in U.S. history and one of the four fastest companies to make the Fortune 500. In this role, you will be responsible for repairing deep wheel damage, operating a wheel repair machine, and applying paint and clear-coat finishes to restore wheels to like-new condition. You will work within a high-tech Inspection Center, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and equipment to ensure every repair meets our strict quality standards. What you'll do
- Execute precise repairs on severely damaged wheel surfaces using specialized machinery and hand tools.
- Diagnose the extent of wheel damage to determine the appropriate repair method and workflow.
- Operate a dedicated wheel repair machine to straighten and reshape bent or distorted wheel components.
- Apply surface preparation techniques to ensure optimal adhesion for paint and coating materials.
- Mix and match paint formulations to accurately match the factory color specifications and customer vehicle finishes.
- Perform multi-stage painting processes, including base coat application and detailed blending techniques.
- Lay down protective clear-coat layers to safeguard the repaired wheel against environmental wear and road debris.
- Inspect completed repairs under various lighting conditions to verify uniformity and overall visual quality.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation to support safety, efficiency, and compliance with facility standards.
- Adhere to all established safety protocols to prevent injury and ensure the safe handling of tools and materials.
- Document repair procedures and outcomes in accordance with company tracking and quality control systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by sharing best practices and identifying process enhancements.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members in the Inspection Center to meet daily production targets.
- Demonstrate reliability and punctuality to support the fast-paced nature of vehicle reconditioning operations.
Requirements
- Possess a minimum of 1 year of professional experience specifically in wheel or rim repair.
- Be capable of physically operating vehicle equipment and tools, including the ability to lift up to 60 pounds independently.
- Be at least 18 years of age and hold a valid driver's license, with some positions potentially requiring a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing production environment while remaining adaptable to shifting priorities.
- Tolerate working conditions that may involve exposure to excessive weather elements, such as heat and cold.
- Consistently use required safety equipment, which may include face shields or goggles, non-slip footwear, gloves, masks, and other protective garments.
- Follow all company safety guidelines to protect yourself and your coworkers from potential hazards.
- Demonstrate the ability to stand or work in one position for extended periods as required by repair tasks.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure workflow continuity and quality standards.
- Maintain attention to detail to ensure every repair meets the high expectations of our customers and internal standards.
Practical notes
This role may require mandatory overtime based on business needs to ensure vehicle availability and customer satisfaction. You must be available to work these additional hours as required.
