About the role
Carvana is looking for individuals to join our reconditioning team to help prepare vehicles for our customers. You will work in a high-tech inspection center to ensure our inventory meets our quality standards. In this capacity, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the reconditioning workflow from start to finish. You will play a critical role in identifying and addressing surface-level issues before vehicles move to final stages. The position requires a meticulous approach to detail in order to uphold the company's rigorous standards. Success in this role depends on your ability to follow procedures accurately while contributing to team efficiency. You will be a key part of the operation that ensures every vehicle is ready for a customer's inspection.

What you'll do
- Prepare vehicles for the painting process by conducting initial surface assessments and ensuring panels are free of debris.
- Perform sanding, masking, taping, and bagging using specialized materials to protect high-finish areas during refinishing procedures.
- Handle vehicle tear down and unbagging with care to avoid damaging components and to document any incidental findings.
- Buff vehicle surfaces to ensure a high-quality finish that meets the luster and clarity expectations of retail customers.
- Operate automotive tools and equipment safely in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company safety protocols.
- Inspect repaired sections for uniformity and compliance with quality control benchmarks before approving vehicles for the next phase.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety, efficiency, and adherence to housekeeping standards in a fast-paced setting.
- Support workflow logistics by moving vehicles through designated stations while coordinating with team members to optimize turnaround times.
- Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety regulations to ensure the workplace remains secure and hazard-free for all personnel.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on tooling, processes, and training needs to enhance department performance.
- Document daily activities accurately to support inventory tracking, rework cycles, and overall quality assurance reporting.
- Collaborate with supervisors and peers to resolve workflow bottlenecks and ensure on-time completion of reconditioning tasks.
- Utilize problem-solving skills to address unexpected issues that arise during the preparation and finishing stages of vehicle processing.
- Demonstrate adaptability by shifting focus between tasks as operational priorities change throughout the workday.
Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of professional automotive prepping experience in a similar inspection or reconditioning capacity.
- Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with regional labor regulations and worksite safety policies.
- Possess a valid driver license to verify identity and meet documentation requirements for employment eligibility.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds independently to perform duties involving vehicle parts, equipment, and material handling.
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to varying weather conditions during vehicle movement and outdoor staging.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to ensure clear communication and comprehension of procedural instructions.
- Must pass a background check as part of the standard hiring process to maintain compliance with company policy.
- Physical capability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods while performing inspection and preparation duties.
- Willingness to work scheduled overtime hours when required to meet production targets and customer demand.
- Compliance with all company policies, including but not limited to safety, attendance, and code of conduct expectations.
