About the role
Carvana is actively searching for an experienced technician to join the team and handle complex body repairs at our Elyria facility. In this role, you will own the responsibility of restoring vehicles to a high standard while working a consistent second shift schedule from Monday through Thursday. You will be tasked with mentoring junior staff members, guiding them through proper techniques and shop expectations to ensure quality output. The position requires maintaining high standards for our vehicle inventory by focusing on precision and attention to detail in every repair. You will be a key part of the production flow, ensuring that vehicles move efficiently through the body shop department. What you'll do
Execute heavy metal work including straightening, shrinking, and stud welding on various vehicle surfaces.
Perform extensive repairs on roof and rocker panels to address collision damage and restore structural integrity.
Manage large-scale bodywork and Bondo applications, ensuring surfaces are prepped to a professional standard.
Conduct heavy plastic welding and stapling to replace or secure damaged components efficiently.
Provide training and guidance to other body shop technicians, helping to elevate the overall skill level of the team.
Operate and maintain automotive body repair equipment to ensure tools are safe and functional for daily use.
Inspect completed repairs to verify that they meet company standards and quality expectations before final sign-off.
Collaborate with other departments to coordinate vehicle flow and communicate any concerns related to damage or repair timelines.
Utilize a variety of specialized tools to complete demanding repairs in a high-volume production environment.
Adapt to changing priorities and workload demands while maintaining a focus on accuracy and workplace safety.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by applying new techniques and best practices learned through experience or training.
Ensure compliance with all shop procedures, contributing to a smooth and efficient operation during your shift.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional automotive bodywork experience is required for this position.
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver license to perform job duties.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance is necessary for handling heavy parts and equipment.
- Capability to work in a high-volume production environment with variable temperatures is essential.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate effectively with team members.
- Compliance with safety protocols including the use of goggles, masks, gloves, and non-slip footwear is mandatory at all times.
- Willingness to adhere to company policies regarding attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct in the workplace.
- Must pass a background check as part of the hiring process to ensure suitability for the role.
- Subject to potential Motor Vehicle Records review to assess driving history relevant to the position.
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and complete tasks according to established standards.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions required in body repair work.
