About the role
C3 Ai is building the platform that makes autonomous intelligence reliable in the real world and you will play a critical role in that mission as a Senior Software Engineer on the C3 Agentic AI Platform team. In this role, you will architect and implement the core systems, tools, and frameworks that enable data scientists and developers to create, deploy, and operate agentic AI applications in production environments. You will own the design and delivery of the runtime infrastructure, evaluation frameworks, and safety mechanisms that ensure agent behaviors are accurate, performant, and secure. Your work will directly impact high-stakes domains such as manufacturing, energy, defense, and healthcare where errors have real operational consequences. You will collaborate daily with product owners and data scientists to translate business and research requirements into robust, scalable software solutions. The position demands intellectual rigor, ownership of full lifecycles, and a commitment to measurable outcomes rather than experimental prototypes. You are expected to mentor peers, elevate the entire team, and maintain a high bar for quality, reliability, and explainability in every artifact you deliver.

What you'll do
Architect and build the systems, tools, and frameworks that let data scientists and developers create, deploy, and operate agentic AI applications on the C3 Agentic AI Platform, applying sound design principles to ground agents in governed enterprise data and run them on reliable, scalable runtimes and end-to-end pipelines in a distributed system.
Advance agent accuracy by building the evaluations, grounding mechanisms, and feedback loops that measure and improve correctness, reduce hallucination, and track override rates in production environments.
Drive agent performance by optimizing latency, throughput, scalability, and inference cost across the platform while maintaining strict service-level objectives and operational efficiency.
Strengthen agent safety by implementing inherited permissions, guardrails, human-approval and escalation paths, auditability, and rollback mechanisms so that autonomy remains bounded and is earned one workflow at a time.
Collaborate closely with data scientists to understand the utility of the C3 Agentic AI Platform and define new requirements that align model capabilities with real enterprise needs.
Work with product owners to define and lead the development of longer-term platform capabilities, prioritizing features that deliver tangible operational impact and reliability improvements.
Mentor junior members of the engineering team, elevating technical standards through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
Champion production-grade engineering practices, including observability, testing, monitoring, and incident response, to ensure that agent workflows remain explainable, reliable, and maintainable at all times.
Contribute to the broader architecture of the C3 Agentic AI Platform by evaluating emerging techniques, integrating new models responsibly, and balancing innovation with stability and compliance requirements.
Own the end-to-end delivery of critical platform components, from initial requirements and design through implementation, validation, rollout, and continuous improvement in live environments.
Drive rigorous experimentation and analysis to quantify the impact of platform changes on agent behavior, accuracy, and efficiency, using data to guide decisions.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align platform roadmaps with enterprise customer expectations, regulatory constraints, and operational realities.
Maintain deep expertise in distributed systems, software reliability, and performance engineering to solve complex problems that span compute, storage, and networking layers.
Promote a culture of safety and responsibility by embedding checks, balances, and transparency into the tools and workflows used by agentic applications.
Requirements
Advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, or a similar field.
Strong command of software architecture and design principles, with a track record of designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems and making architectural trade-offs deliberately.
Thorough knowledge of data structures, algorithms, profiling, and optimization, as well as object-oriented and functional programming paradigms.
Strong programming skills in Java, Python, and JavaScript.
High proficiency with agentic coding tools (for example, Claude Code, Cursor) - going beyond individual tool use to orchestrate engineering workflows across multiple agents working in parallel. You decompose work, delegate to and coordinate several coding agents at once, and review their output with the judgment to catch subtle bugs, security issues, and architectural drift, all while collaborating closely with teammates and keeping code correct, secure, and maintainable.
In-depth understanding of machine learning algorithms; familiarity with large language models and AI agent architectures is a strong plus.
Proven track record of applying machine learning or AI in a production system.
Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of projects, including making key design decisions, delivering on schedule, and maintaining systems in production.
Experience with cloud platforms and distributed infrastructure, including containerization, orchestration, and observability tooling.
Clear understanding of security, privacy, and compliance considerations relevant to enterprise AI deployments.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
High intellectual curiosity, quick learning speed, and resilience in an environment where tools, models, and best practices evolve rapidly.
A bias for action, with the judgment to know when to experiment and when to invest in robust, long-term solutions.
