About the role
Butterfly Network is seeking a technical leader to drive the architecture and development of our proprietary Ultrasound-on-Chip technology. You will guide the design of complex digital systems that power our next-generation medical imaging devices. What you'll do
- Lead the architectural definition and implementation of digital ASIC components for ultrasound systems, establishing a clear roadmap from system requirements to block-level design.
- Oversee the full silicon development lifecycle, from initial specification through tape-out and post-silicon validation, ensuring rigorous adherence to timelines and quality metrics.
- Collaborate with systems, analog, and software engineering teams to optimize performance, power, and area, resolving architectural trade-offs to meet clinical and commercial objectives.
- Mentor junior engineers and establish technical standards for digital design methodologies, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the team.
- Drive technical decisions regarding IP selection, verification strategies, and integration, ensuring that all components align with the overall product vision and regulatory requirements.
- Define and implement verification environments and test methodologies to ensure the highest levels of functional correctness and robustness in the final silicon.
- Partner with operations and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless transfer of design knowledge and processes for high-volume production.
- Analyze field failure data and performance metrics to inform future architectural iterations, driving enhancements in reliability and feature set.
- Champion the adoption of advanced design techniques and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge in the medical imaging market.
- Facilitate cross-functional design reviews, ensuring alignment between hardware capabilities, software requirements, and customer needs.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive documentation for architectural decisions, interfaces, and design specifications for future reference and audit purposes.
- Guide the selection and integration of third-party IP and open standards to accelerate development and reduce risk.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure project goals are met and strategic objectives are achieved.
- Serve as a technical consultant to other departments, providing expert guidance on digital ASIC capabilities and limitations.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in digital ASIC design and architecture, specifically within high-performance imaging or signal processing domains, with a proven ability to manage complex projects.
- Proven track record of taking complex digital designs from concept to production silicon, demonstrating mastery over the entire development flow.
- Deep understanding of RTL design, synthesis, timing analysis, and power optimization techniques, ensuring efficient and reliable circuit implementations.
- Proficiency in hardware verification methodologies and simulation environments, enabling thorough validation of designs before tape-out.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment with teams across multiple office locations, leveraging diverse communication tools and practices.
- Strong leadership skills with the capacity to influence technical direction and guide the career development of engineering professionals.
- Demonstrated expertise in digital design using industry-standard languages and methodologies, with a keen eye for detail and system-level thinking.
