(Senior) Analytics Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will own the entire data stack at Bunch, driving reliability and insight from ingestion through the semantic layer. This role involves shaping the foundational infrastructure that supports both business intelligence and product analytics today, with embedded analytics poised for tomorrow. You will ensure that data pipelines are robust, maintainable, and aligned with the evolving needs of a fast-growing private markets platform. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, product managers, and fund operations teams to translate complex requirements into clear, scalable data models. Your work will directly impact how confidently internal stakeholders and external fund managers can trust and act on analytics. You will be responsible for making conversational analytics reliable, so that stakeholders can ask questions in plain language and receive accurate, actionable answers. If you thrive in an environment where ownership, pragmatism, and technical rigor are valued, this role offers the chance to build infrastructure that matters to thousands of users.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own data modeling and the semantic layer, ensuring consistency and clarity across all downstream analytics.
- Move every remaining pipeline onto dlt, writing production-quality Python code that you control end to end.
- Make the stack reliable by default by implementing robust scheduling, monitoring, and infrastructure as code practices.
- Run our self-hosted Lightdash instance, including deployment, configuration, and ongoing optimization.
- Enable conversational analytics to work at scale, so business users can query data in natural language with justified trust.
- Collaborate with product and operations teams to turn ambiguous requirements into well-defined data structures and metrics.
- Improve data quality and documentation so that analysts and engineers can move quickly without repeated clarification loops.
- Partner with the engineering team to instrument event tracking in PostHog and ensure data integrity across the system.
- Optimize query performance in BigQuery while managing costs and maintaining acceptable response times for dashboards.
- Support and mentor analysts and junior engineers on best practices for dbt, SQL, and data modeling.
Requirements
- Bring 4+ years of experience in analytics or data engineering, ideally owning the full stack in a production environment.
- Form strong opinions on dimensional modeling, layering strategies, and data contracts to keep the semantic layer coherent.
- Go beyond basic dbt usage, with deep knowledge of materializations, incremental strategies, macros, CI pipelines, and failure modes.
- Write production-grade Python for data ingestion, handling APIs, pagination, incremental loads, and schema drift with care.
- Feel comfortable managing deployed infrastructure, including scheduling workflows on Airflow or Dagster and maintaining reliability.
- Be pragmatic enough to balance ideal solutions with business needs, knowing when good enough is the right tradeoff.
- Have experience working with modern data tools in cloud environments, including warehouses like BigQuery and transformation layers.
- Understand how to secure data access, manage permissions, and monitor pipelines for issues before they affect users.
Nice to have
- Experience deploying and operating Lightdash in a self-hosted setup.
- Hands-on work with dlt in production pipelines, especially in Python-based workflows.
- Familiarity with event tracking platforms like PostHog and integrating them into analytics workflows.
- Exposure to regulated industries where data governance and auditability are critical.
Practical notes
- Remote-flexible hybrid arrangement with 3 days per week in the office in Berlin.
- Up to 4 remote calendar weeks permitted per year for distributed collaboration or personal planning.
- The hiring process includes a screening interview, a technical session with SQL and design components, a deep dive into your track record, and a final round focused on culture and strategic fit.
