Buddle is seeking a Software Engineer to join their organization in a full-time capacity. The role centers on designing, building, and maintaining software systems that power the company's products and services. The engineer will work closely with teammates across disciplines to translate requirements into reliable, well-structured code. This position plays a key part in shaping the technical direction and long-term evolution of Buddle's software platform.

What you'll do
- Design and implement new software features that meet the product roadmap and address real user needs.
- Write clean, readable, and well-documented code that can be easily maintained and extended by the team.
- Participate in thorough code reviews to uphold quality standards and share technical knowledge across the group.
- Diagnose and resolve software defects, performance bottlenecks, and unexpected behavior in both staging and production.
- Partner with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define requirements and deliver cohesive solutions.
- Contribute to architectural discussions that determine how the software system is structured and evolves over time.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites covering unit, integration, and end-to-end scenarios for critical paths.
- Take part in agile workflows including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
- Create and update technical documentation such as design notes, API references, and system diagrams for stakeholders.
- Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and development practices that improve team productivity and software reliability.
- Support the release process by helping with deployments, monitoring, and post-release validation of new changes.
- Guide and support less experienced engineers through knowledge sharing, pair programming, and constructive feedback.
Requirements
- A solid background in software engineering with demonstrated ability to deliver working software in a team setting.
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and basic system design.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language commonly used for building web or backend applications.
- Hands-on experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows used in professional environments.
- Familiarity with relational or non-relational databases and the ability to model data effectively for application needs.
- The capacity to work independently, manage priorities, and see tasks through from initial design to final delivery.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical concepts to both engineers and non-engineers.
- A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Nice to have
- Prior exposure to cloud computing platforms and container-based deployment workflows in a production context.
- Experience with observability tools such as logging, metrics collection, and distributed tracing for complex systems.
- A history of contributing to open-source projects or maintaining personal software projects that demonstrate initiative.
- Background in designing and building application programming interfaces or service-oriented architectures at meaningful scale.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages used for modern application development.
- Comfort with integrated development environments and source code editors that support collaborative editing.
- Familiarity with testing libraries and frameworks for validating correctness across different layers of the system.
- Understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines that automate build and deployment steps.
- Working knowledge of database technologies including both structured query and unstructured data storage options.
- Experience with project tracking and team coordination platforms used to manage tasks and communicate progress.
