Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, ensuring timely and accurate payroll delivery on a bi-weekly basis.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with Australian taxation laws and regulations, including PAYG, superannuation, and other statutory obligations.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure that employee data is accurately reflected in the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status.
- Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to management, providing insights into payroll expenses and trends.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters, providing clear and timely information to resolve issues.
- Ensure that all payroll processes adhere to internal policies and external regulations, maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and data security.
- Assist in the development and implementation of payroll policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
- Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and best practices, making recommendations for improvements to payroll processes.
- Work closely with the finance team to reconcile payroll accounts and assist in month-end closing activities.
- Participate in training and development initiatives to enhance your skills and knowledge in payroll management.
- Contribute to special projects related to payroll systems and technology enhancements as needed.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll accounting, preferably within an Australian context.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with experience in using platforms such as MYOB, Xero, or similar tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
- A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems and integration with payroll processes is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive approach to tasks.
Nice to have
- Certification in payroll management or related qualifications would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with Australian employment contracts and workplace relations legislation.
- Experience in managing payroll for a diverse workforce, including contractors and casual employees.
