Brightline is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Comptroller to join our dynamic team in Ashburn, Virginia. This full-time position plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of our organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting and finance, with a focus on strategic financial management. As a key member of our finance team, you will contribute to the overall financial health and sustainability of Brightline.

What you'll do

• Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
• Manage the company's accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure financial integrity.
• Conduct regular financial audits and reviews to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Collaborate with department heads to prepare annual budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
• Monitor cash flow and financial performance, providing timely reports and analysis to senior management.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns and filings.
• Lead the financial reporting process, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to stakeholders.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, ensuring all necessary documentation and information is readily available.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in financial regulations, adapting processes as needed to maintain compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Strong knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems; experience with [specific software used by Brightline, if known] is a plus.
• Proven ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and reports, with a keen eye for detail.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial issues.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Experience in the transportation or logistics industry is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements.

• Advanced proficiency in Excel and other data analysis tools.
• Experience with financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
• Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
• Familiarity with financial compliance standards specific to the transportation sector.
• Previous experience in a high-growth or startup environment.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance standards.
• Ability to utilize data analytics tools for financial reporting and analysis.
• Familiarity with cloud-based financial management systems.
