Brightline is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Comptroller to join our dynamic team in Ashburn, Virginia. This full-time position plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of our organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining accurate financial records. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting and finance, with a focus on strategic financial management. What you'll do
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage the company's accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure financial integrity.
- Conduct regular financial audits and reviews to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with department heads to prepare annual budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance, providing timely reports and analysis to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns and filings.
- Lead the financial reporting process, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to stakeholders.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits, ensuring all necessary documentation and information is readily available.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in financial regulations, adapting processes as needed to maintain compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems; experience with [specific software used by Brightline, if known] is a plus.
- Proven ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and reports, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial issues.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in the transportation or logistics industry is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements.

- Experience with financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Familiarity with financial compliance standards specific to the transportation sector.
- Previous experience in a high-growth or startup environment.

- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to utilize data analytics tools for financial reporting and analysis.
- Familiarity with cloud-based financial management systems.
