About the role
Bounce is seeking a Product Engineer to join our Lisbon office. This role will play a pivotal part in crafting new products atop our platform and expanding the efficacy of the Bounce marketplace. You will own initiatives that improve marketplace health across the end-to-end customer and partner journey, from search through booking to post-booking and repeat engagement. Partner closely with operational teams including Supply, Partner Success, and Customer Support to enhance supply quality, reduce operational load, and strengthen day-to-day execution. You will keep the lights on for the core business by handling day-to-day maintenance, addressing operational issues quickly, and continuously improving reliability and resiliency. In this position, you will write high-quality code for our mobile and web applications, assuming strong ownership of products and services and continuously improving and maintaining existing code and architecture. You will work in a fast-paced environment and shoulder the responsibility and commitment of the production environment, including improving reliability and resolving production issues as needed. Our technology stack includes Elixir, React Native, Expo, React, NextJS, and Typescript, and you will introduce other technologies when beneficial. You are expected to bring a passion for staying on top of industry trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and participating in internal and external technology communities.

What you'll do

- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize trade-offs, and align on product decisions.
- Translate ambiguous problems into structured solutions and validate them with data and user feedback.
- Collaborate closely with designers to ensure pixel-perfect, accessible, and performant user interfaces.
- Optimize application performance for high-traffic scenarios across web and native platforms.
- Implement robust testing strategies and contribute to a stable, maintainable codebase.
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices through code reviews and documentation.
Requirements
- Relevant experience developing and shipping code for production systems.
- Generalist that strives for velocity and loves owning a feature from start to finish by contributing across the stack.
- Proficient coding skills in one or more of the following: Javascript, Typescript, Elixir, or Ruby.
- Experience with frontend frameworks and technologies, including but not limited to: React, React Native, Javascript, CSS, etc.
- Proven experience in building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit/integration testing.
- Strong understanding of software design patterns and system architecture.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, scrappy startup environment where priorities can shift quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Willingness to dive into legacy code and refactor for long-term maintainability.
- Commitment to writing clean, modular, and well-documented code.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Understanding of deployment pipelines and DevOps fundamentals is a must.
Nice to have
- Experience with marketplace platforms and two-sided network effects.
- Knowledge of logistics or travel industry workflows.
- Familiarity with operations dashboards and observability tools.
- Contributions to open-source projects or personal portfolio demonstrating full-stack capabilities.
- Experience with A/B testing frameworks and experimentation best practices.
- Understanding of supply-side and demand-side dynamics in marketplace products.
- Background in customer support or operations tooling within travel or hospitality.

Bounce operates on a full-time basis from its Lisbon office. Candidates must be able to work on-site in Portugal.
