Fullstack Engineer
Job description
About the role
This role builds modern software for construction from product design through production. The team delivers features, designs systems, and operates them in cloud environments with minimal process.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Own the stack end to end, using React, Django, and PostgreSQL to build, ship, and scale features for construction workflows.
Craft frontend interfaces to achieve performance, UX, and architecture that users prefer, turning design into responsive and reliable user experiences.
Design APIs and data models to perform under load, supporting growth and stability as construction data scales in production.
Run production on AWS or GCP, handling deployments, monitoring, and debugging to ensure reliability for critical workflows.
Ship features with conviction through partnership with product, computer vision, and design, delivering solutions that address real user needs.
Move fast by prototyping quickly, iterating with users, and investing effort where the work proves effective and measurable.
Requirements
Work with high ownership to create clarity and deliver outcomes when facing ambiguity and complex construction problems.
Demonstrate strong product judgment, understand why features are built, and advocate for users and their operational realities.
Maintain technical strength in system design, performance, and architecture, scaling systems or learning new patterns rapidly.
Operate as a full-stack generalist from frontend to infrastructure, working without handoffs and remaining accountable for outcomes.
Learn new tools and technologies quickly, acquiring skills and shipping features as soon as they are well understood.
Thrive in a fast environment that prioritizes impact over process, making decisions that move construction software forward.
Handle multiple priorities, sequence work effectively, and deliver reliably even when under pressure and shifting requirements.
Practical notes
The role is full-time and in-person in San Francisco. The team evaluates learning rate and proven impact more than background or pedigree. Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Generalists who build full-stack features using modern web technologies will recognize the tools and workflows described. Cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP host scalable services that support reliable software operations. These roles typically involve rapid iteration, performance optimization, and close collaboration with cross-functional partners.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
About the company
Construction is one of the largest industries in the world, but it is also one of the least technologically innovative spaces. Conducting fast and accurate cost estimates is a massive pain point because of the tedious nature of takeoffs (measuring & counting materials needed from the drawings).
