Sr. Components Product Manager Emphasis on Reaction Wheels
Job description
Sr. Components Product Manager Emphasis on Reaction Wheels at Bamboohr.
About the role
Bamboohr is looking for a Senior Components Product Manager with a strong focus on reaction wheels, which are critical actuation devices used to control the orientation and stabilization of spacecraft. This role sits at the intersection of product strategy, technical understanding, and cross-functional leadership. The successful candidate will own the product lifecycle for reaction wheel components, working closely with engineering, operations, and commercial teams to define roadmaps, prioritize features, and bring products to market. You will be responsible for translating customer needs and mission requirements into clear product specifications and delivery plans. This is a full-time position based in Boulder, Colorado, where Bamboohr maintains its offices and operational hub.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and execute the product strategy for reaction wheel components across multiple spacecraft programs and missions.
Gather and analyze customer requirements from government agencies, satellite manufacturers, and commercial space operators to inform product development priorities.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to translate technical specifications into product features and performance targets.
Own the product roadmap, including milestone planning, resource allocation, and go-to-market timelines for reaction wheel product lines.
Lead cross-functional reviews and gate decisions to ensure products meet quality, reliability, and mission-critical standards.
Manage the product backlog and prioritize feature development based on market demand, technical feasibility, and strategic alignment.
Coordinate with the supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure production readiness and consistent delivery of reaction wheel units.
Conduct competitive analysis and technology scouting to identify emerging approaches in reaction wheel design and related actuation technologies.
Present product updates, performance metrics, and forecast data to leadership and external stakeholders on a regular cadence.
Serve as the primary product advocate for reaction wheels, representing the product in customer meetings, industry conferences, and internal planning sessions.
Requirements
Proven experience in product management within the aerospace, defense, or space technology sector, with a focus on components or subsystems.
Deep understanding of reaction wheel technology, including torque specifications, momentum management, and spacecraft attitude control architectures.
Strong technical fluency in mechanical design, motor drives, and control electronics relevant to reaction wheel systems.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated success managing product lifecycles from concept through qualification, production, and field deployment.
Ability to work in a cross-functional environment and influence outcomes without direct authority over engineering or manufacturing staff.
Experience with requirements management tools and product lifecycle management platforms.
Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites, test facilities, or partner locations as needed for program execution.
Nice to have
Familiarity with spacecraft bus architectures and how reaction wheels integrate with other attitude determination and control subsystems.
Background in systems engineering or a related technical discipline, with hands-on experience in hardware product development.
Knowledge of relevant standards such as MIL-STD or NASA requirements for spaceflight components and reaction wheel qualification.
Experience managing suppliers or subcontractors in a regulated or high-reliability manufacturing environment.
Skills & tools
Proficiency with product management platforms such as Jira, Aha, or similar roadmap and backlog tools.
Experience with requirements capture and specification formats including DOORS or Polarion.
Familiarity with CAD and simulation tools used in reaction wheel design review and analysis workflows.
Strong proficiency in data analysis and reporting, including Excel, Power BI, or equivalent visualization tools.
Comfort with technical documentation, including product datasheets, interface control documents, and test reports.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and performance test data for electromechanical components.
Practical notes
This role is based in Boulder, Colorado, and requires on-site presence at Bamboohr offices as part of a full-time schedule.
The position involves regular interaction with engineering and operations teams, so comfort with technical environments and lab or manufacturing floor visits is expected.
Candidates should be prepared to engage with external customers and partners, which may include travel to other locations within the United States.
Bamboohr values candidates who bring both product management discipline and a genuine technical curiosity about reaction wheel systems and their role in spacecraft missions.
