Lead Data Analyst, Strategy & Growth
Job description
Lead Data Analyst, Strategy & Growth at Blackbird Labs Inc.
About the role
Blackbird Labs is a loyalty and payments platform establishing meaningful connections between the world's best restaurants and their customers. The Lead Data Analyst, Strategy & Growth will own the measurement framework that proves whether Blackbird's growth initiatives work and which ones to double down on or stop. You will translate ambiguous strategic questions into rigorous analyses that directly guide product, marketing, and restaurant decisions. You will build and maintain the analytical foundations of the Cockpit, market scorecards, and growth ROI dashboards used by leadership and the Board. You will define the metrics, models, and experiments that set the analytical bar for the Strategy & Growth function. You will partner cross-functionally to instrument initiatives, define the right data, and interpret results for stakeholders across the business. You will identify which restaurants and customers create the most long-term value and which behaviors strengthen the marketplace flywheel across TPV, MPU, DPU, retention, and Fly Load growth. You will stand up the experimentation framework that enables fast, statistically rigorous learning about growth levers.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own Blackbird's growth measurement framework, defining success metrics, guardrails, and targets for each major growth initiative, then measuring performance, validating assumptions, and surfacing gaps.
- Build and maintain the analytical layer behind the Cockpit, market scorecards, and growth ROI reporting that leadership and the Board rely on.
- Turn open-ended strategic questions about where to grow next and which investments are paying off into clear, defensible analysis and recommendations.
- Build the models that drive both sides of the marketplace, including restaurant composite scoring, market and neighborhood targeting, customer and behavioral segmentation, and Fly Load and lifecycle value models.
- Identify which restaurants and customers create the most long-term value and which behaviors strengthen the marketplace flywheel across TPV, MPU, DPU, retention, and Fly Load growth.
- Stand up the experimentation framework that lets Growth learn quickly, with a high bar for statistical rigor and causal measurement.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Restaurants to instrument initiatives, define the data needed, and read out results.
- Build lightweight tooling and automation with Product and Engineering to speed up analysis and cut manual reporting.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear narratives and actionable plans for senior stakeholders.
- Challenge existing assumptions by designing analyses that test the impact of growth levers before large-scale rollout.
- Maintain data quality and documentation so that insights are reproducible and trustworthy over time.
- Lead the definition of core marketplace economics metrics and ensure alignment across product, operations, and finance.
- Design cohort and segment analyses that reveal how restaurant and customer behavior evolves across the lifecycle.
- Calibrate model performance against real-world outcomes and iterate based on observed business impact.
- Communicate insights through dashboards, briefings, and presentations that drive consensus and execution.
- Establish analytical best practices and standards for measurement across the Strategy & Growth function.
- Synthesize findings from diverse data sources into a coherent view of marketplace health and growth opportunity.
- Support data-driven decision making at all levels by making analysis accessible without sacrificing rigor.
Requirements
- 8+ years in analytics, data science, growth analytics, or a quantitative strategy role, ideally at a high-growth marketplace, fintech, payments, or consumer tech company.
- Expert SQL and a strong analytical toolkit in Python or R for modeling, segmentation, and experimentation, including the ability to write and optimize complex queries over large datasets.
- A track record of turning messy data into decisions that moved a core business metric, with the judgment to know which metric matters.
- Deep experience with experimentation and A/B testing, plus causal measurement methods such as incrementality and holdouts.
- Fluency in marketplace, growth, and unit-economics concepts such as TPV, retention, LTV, ROI, and cohort analysis.
- Experience with BI tools such as Amplitude, Looker, Mode, or Metabase.
- Clear communication with senior audiences, with the ability to take an analysis from the numbers to a recommendation leadership can act on.
- Comfort working with autonomy and ambiguity on a founding team.
Nice to have
- Experience building or owning a metrics layer or BI environment such as Metabase, Looker, or dbt.
- Background in management consulting, corporate strategy, or a strong growth or analytics team.
- Experience with incentive design, pricing, or paid-acquisition measurement.
