About the role
The Senior Counsel, Corporate & Commercial Transactions is a pivotal legal leadership position within BitGo's European operations, based in London, England, United Kingdom. At BitGo, the leading infrastructure provider of digital asset solutions delivering custody, wallets, staking, trading, financing, and settlement services from regulated cold storage since 2013, this role is critical to enabling secure navigation of the digital asset space for thousands of institutions and millions of users globally. This position requires a legal expert who will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, executing strategic deals and managing complex negotiations to drive growth while upholding robust risk management. The successful candidate will own the end-to-end lifecycle of a diverse portfolio of cross-border commercial contracts and corporate transactions, shaping European commercial strategy in a dynamic and regulated environment.
This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional partners, including finance, product, and operations, to ensure seamless execution and alignment with business objectives. Effectively managing relationships with outside counsel is essential to ensure high-quality delivery within established legal budgets and timelines. The Senior Counsel will also play a key role in monitoring regulatory developments in the UK and Europe that impact corporate investments and commercial operations. Streamlining internal deal processes and playbooks will be a priority to improve velocity while maintaining strong risk mitigation.
What you'll do
- Lead the drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex commercial contracts and corporate transactions for BitGo's European initiatives.
- Advise senior executives on legal risks, deal structures, and the strategic implications of potential partnerships or acquisitions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including finance, product, and operations, to ensure seamless execution of transactions.
- Manage outside counsel to ensure high-quality delivery within established legal budgets and timelines.
- Monitor regulatory developments in the UK and Europe that impact corporate investments and commercial operations.
- Streamline internal deal processes and playbooks to improve velocity while maintaining strong risk mitigation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for legal matters related to corporate and commercial transactions in the European market.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify commercial opportunities and assess the legal implications of new initiatives.
- Develop and maintain sophisticated contract templates and legal frameworks to support business growth.
- Provide clear business guidance by translating technical legal risk into actionable insights for non-legal audiences.
- Support the evaluation and onboarding of third-party vendors in alignment with BitGo's risk appetite.
- Contribute to the development of BitGo's European commercial strategy through analysis of market trends and regulatory landscapes.
Requirements
- Must possess a minimum of four years of post-qualification experience spent at a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
- Must have an extensive track record of managing high-value corporate or commercial transactions independently.
- Must demonstrate an exceptional understanding of UK corporate frameworks and commercial rules.
- Must have a strong grasp of cross-border data privacy considerations relevant to digital asset transactions.
- Must possess exceptional negotiation skills to find creative solutions to complex legal bottlenecks.
- Must have excellent communication skills to translate technical legal risk into clear business guidance.
- Must be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy and judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have experience working with regulated financial institutions and understanding of compliance obligations.
- Must be authorized to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.
