About the role
Bird is looking for an Operations Specialist to manage our electric vehicle fleet in Columbus. You will handle the physical deployment and maintenance of scooters to ensure our service remains reliable for local riders. In this capacity, you will serve as a critical link between our fleet assets and the rider experience, ensuring that vehicles are where they are needed, when they are needed. Your day-to-day work will involve hands-on interaction with the inventory, from securing units overnight to preparing them for the morning rush. You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and operational readiness of the vehicles under your care. This position requires a proactive mindset to identify issues before they impact the community. Ultimately, your efforts will directly support the accessibility and convenience that riders expect from the Bird platform.

What you'll do
- Drive vehicles to load, unload, and position scooters based on mobile app navigation, ensuring efficient routing.
- Move units from quiet zones to high-traffic areas to meet demand, optimizing availability for riders.
- Conduct basic quality inspections and diagnostics on e-bikes and scooters to identify safety or performance issues.
- Assist with general warehouse organization and fleet staging tasks to maintain a secure and orderly environment.
- Use internal software to track progress and update the team on daily targets, contributing to operational transparency.
- Help test new product features as they are released, providing feedback on functionality in real-world conditions.
- Perform physical maneuvers to transport and store heavy equipment, adapting to varying site conditions.
- Communicate clearly with dispatch and team members to resolve any discrepancies in inventory or assignments.
- Monitor vehicle status throughout your shift, reporting any anomalies promptly to prevent larger disruptions.
- Support the overall reliability of the service by ensuring that operational processes run smoothly and without delay.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 21, ensuring you meet the legal threshold for the responsibilities of the role.
- Valid driver license with at least 2 years of driving history, demonstrating your experience behind the wheel.
- Ability to lift 80 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation, to manage vehicle and equipment handling.
- Proficiency in English, allowing you to understand instructions and communicate effectively with the team.
- Must be available to work weekends, as this is a critical period for fleet demand and operational coverage.
- Comfort using smartphone applications while working in the field to navigate routes and update statuses.
- Full eligibility to work in the United States, as this role requires direct interaction with company systems and assets.
- Reliable transportation to the specified work location, ensuring consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Physical capability to perform the essential functions of the job, including standing, walking, and manual handling.
- Willingness to adhere to Bird's policies and procedures, including safety, security, and customer service standards.
