What you'll do

• Conduct land surveys to determine property boundaries, topography, and other relevant features using advanced surveying equipment and techniques.
• Prepare detailed survey reports and maps that accurately reflect the findings of your assessments.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to provide essential data that supports project planning and execution.
• Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations regarding land use and surveying practices.
• Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze and interpret spatial data, enhancing project outcomes.
• Perform fieldwork in various environments, which may include urban, rural, and remote locations, while adhering to safety protocols.
• Assist in the development of project proposals by providing accurate estimates of time and resources required for surveying tasks.
• Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments to ensure precision and reliability in measurements.
• Participate in project meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions with stakeholders.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior surveyors and interns, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
• Stay updated on advancements in surveying technology and methodologies to continuously improve practices within the team.
• Document all survey activities and maintain organized records for future reference and compliance audits.

Requirements

• A degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in land surveying or a similar role, preferably within the civil engineering sector.
• Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and levels.
• Strong understanding of surveying principles, practices, and relevant legislation in British Columbia.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to have

• Professional designation as a Land Surveyor (or eligibility for registration) in British Columbia.
• Experience with CAD software and other design tools commonly used in surveying and engineering.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in surveying.
• Knowledge of construction processes and how surveying integrates into project development.
• Previous experience in project management or coordination is a plus.

Skills & tools

• Advanced knowledge of surveying instruments and technology, including total stations, GPS, and digital levels.
• Proficient in GIS software and data analysis tools.
• Familiarity with CAD software for drafting and design purposes.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
