What you'll do

• Collaborate with engineering teams to develop detailed design plans for civil engineering projects, including roads, bridges, and water systems.
• Prepare and review technical drawings and specifications using industry-standard software, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
• Conduct site assessments and surveys to gather data necessary for project planning and execution.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and schedules to support project management efforts.
• Coordinate with various stakeholders, including contractors, municipal authorities, and environmental agencies, to facilitate project approvals and permits.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any issues that arise and proposing effective solutions.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including reports, correspondence, and records of meetings, to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance personal knowledge and contribute to the team's expertise.
• Participate in quality control and assurance processes to uphold the integrity of engineering designs and deliverables.
• Engage in continuous professional development through training and certifications relevant to civil technology and engineering practices.

Requirements

• A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in civil engineering or a related technical role.
• Proficiency in civil engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and codes, particularly in the context of Canadian regulations.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being capable of working independently when required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail in all aspects of work.

Nice to have

• Experience with project management software and tools, such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable design practices in civil engineering.
• Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional engineering association, such as ASET or APEGBC.
• Previous experience in municipal infrastructure projects or land development.
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and their application in civil engineering.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant design software.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
• Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork and site inspections, including the use of surveying equipment.
• Knowledge of construction practices and safety protocols relevant to civil engineering projects.
