The KYC Technology Team at Binance seeks a Backend Engineer (Java) to architect and implement the core infrastructure for our global identity verification operations. In this capacity, you will be responsible for designing robust, high-throughput services that power the intake and validation of user identity information. Your primary mission is to convert complex regulatory requirements into reliable, production-grade software. You will build the foundational components that ensure compliance workflows run accurately and efficiently across diverse markets. This role involves close collaboration with product, compliance, and engineering partners to deliver solutions that meet stringent legal and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
You will own the development of Java-based services that ingest identity documents and standardize the extracted personal data. A core function involves constructing scalable data pipelines that route customer records through sequential validation and verification stages. You will implement the logic that reviews verification outcomes and records definitive decisions to satisfy audit and regulatory traceability. A critical duty is the deployment of features that establish secure connections with regional and global compliance vendors. You will coordinate with product teams to ensure backend modifications seamlessly integrate with evolving KYC business workflows. The role requires guiding the integration of machine learning models for identity checks while strictly adhering to legal and regulatory boundaries. You will establish monitoring and alerting for transaction flows and fraud detection mechanisms to ensure system integrity. also, you will adapt and configure services to support Binance's international expansion, ensuring compliance with varying regional legal frameworks.
Required Qualifications
You must possess a minimum of three years of professional experience implementing backend systems using Java in live production environments. You should demonstrate the ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into well-defined service interfaces and data models. A strong understanding of network protocols and storage architectures used in large-scale distributed systems is essential. You must adopt a test-driven approach, writing comprehensive tests to verify system behavior prior to production deployment. Effective communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with engineering teams located in multiple geographical regions and time zones.

What you'll do

- Develop integration layers that connect Binance's systems with regional and global compliance vendors via secure APIs.

- Collaborate closely with product and compliance stakeholders to align backend functionality with evolving KYC business processes.
- Apply expertise in MySQL and Redis to optimize data storage, retrieval, and caching for performance-critical verification paths.
- Leverage Kafka to construct asynchronous, event-driven architectures that decouple services and enhance system resilience.
- Utilize Protobuf and gRPC to define efficient contract-first interfaces for inter-service communication.
- Engineer RESTful APIs that expose verification capabilities to frontend and third-party systems with strict adherence to security standards.
- Establish comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging for transaction flows to detect anomalies and ensure system integrity.
- Integrate machine learning models into the verification pipeline, ensuring outputs are reliable and compliant with legal constraints.
- Configure and adapt backend services to meet the requirements of Binance's expanding presence in multiple international jurisdictions.
- Champion test-driven development practices, creating extensive test suites that validate behavior before production release.
- Act as a technical leader in distributed system design, addressing challenges related to network protocols, latency, and data consistency.
- Ensure all solutions meet the stringent availability and security expectations of a global financial platform.
- Document architectural decisions and implementation details to facilitate knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production incidents and maintain high reliability for identity verification services.
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices for building scalable and maintainable backend systems.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to improve the efficiency and security of the KYC infrastructure.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Bring a minimum of three years of hands-on experience building backend systems with Java in production environments.
- Demonstrate proficiency in designing and defining service interfaces and data models from technical specifications.
- Show a strong grasp of network protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, and TLS, as well as storage architectures including databases and caches.
- Apply a test-driven development mindset, capable of writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to validate system behavior.
- Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with globally distributed engineering teams.
- Possess strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous approach to debugging complex production issues.
- Maintain a deep commitment to code quality, security, and compliance in all software delivery activities.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment where requirements evolve based on regulatory changes and business needs.
