About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer in our Digital Experiences team, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining software applications that directly impact patient care and healthcare provider workflows. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and quality assurance, to create seamless and impactful digital tools. This position is based on-site in Menlo Park, California, and requires being physically present in the office 2-3 days per week, fostering collaboration and team cohesion.

What you'll do
- Develop and enhance web applications utilizing modern frontend technologies such as React, Typescript, and CSS-in-JS libraries to create engaging and accessible user interfaces for healthcare professionals and patients.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into functional, scalable, and user-friendly digital solutions.
- Implement best practices in frontend architecture, including component-based design, state management, and testing strategies, to ensure code quality and maintainability.
- Write comprehensive unit tests and participate in code reviews to uphold high standards of software quality, ensuring robust test coverage across all modules.
- Work with backend teams to integrate APIs and data sources, primarily using Django and Postgres, ensuring smooth data flow and application performance.
- Take ownership of projects from initial concept through deployment, managing timelines and deliverables effectively.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the engineering team.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather feedback, refine features, and prioritize development efforts based on user needs and business goals.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, including AI-driven development tools, and evaluate their potential to improve development workflows and product capabilities.
- Contribute to the development of scalable, secure, and compliant software solutions that meet healthcare industry standards and regulations.
- Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, to ensure timely delivery of features and fixes.
- Document technical designs, APIs, and user guides to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience in software development, with a proven track record of managing complex projects and delivering high-quality applications.
- Strong proficiency in frontend development, especially with React, Typescript, and CSS-in-JS libraries, with an understanding of component-based architecture.
- Experience implementing frontend testing frameworks such as Playwright, and knowledge of best practices for frontend testing and automation.
- Familiarity with web frameworks, particularly Django, and experience integrating frontend applications with backend services.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools and practices, such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code, and an interest in leveraging these tools to improve productivity.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite in Menlo Park, California, collaborating closely with team members.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex technical challenges creatively and effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, with an understanding of healthcare data standards like FHIR and HL7, is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and promote best practices within the engineering team.

- Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS and experience deploying scalable applications in cloud environments.
- Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams, including data scientists, bioinformaticians, and healthcare professionals.

- The total annual compensation is approximately $297,321, with a salary range of $190,081 to $211,201, depending on experience and other factors.
