About the role
BillionToOne is looking for a talented Lead UX Designer to guide the user experience strategy for our prenatal diagnostic platform, Unity. This position merges advanced genomics with user-centered design to create trustworthy experiences for clinicians, patients, and operational teams. You will play a crucial role in transforming complex molecular diagnostics into intuitive digital solutions.

What you'll do
- Develop and oversee the complete UX vision and strategy for Unity, ensuring alignment from research to implementation.
- Collaborate with product leadership to shape project roadmaps and prioritize user needs alongside technical and business objectives.
- Use systems thinking to clarify complex interactions among patients, providers, lab processes, and data systems.
- Create user experiences that demystify scientific concepts and foster trust.
- Translate product strategies into actionable design initiatives that enhance user journeys within clinical workflows.
- Lead the design process from initial research through wireframing, prototyping, user testing, and final deliverables.
- Produce and maintain high-quality design documentation, including user flows, journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes.
- Manage in-product content and microcopy to ensure clarity and build user confidence.
- Evolve Unity's design system in collaboration with branding and marketing teams to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Integrate accessibility and regulatory considerations into every design decision.
- Conduct user research to gather insights that inform product and design strategies.
- Advocate for evidence-based design practices grounded in thorough user research.
- Synthesize feedback from various stakeholders to identify design opportunities and unmet needs.
- Promote the user perspective in discussions with cross-functional teams, balancing clinical, technical, and business needs.
- Mentor junior designers and UX contractors, fostering a culture of design excellence and user advocacy.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure that the final product aligns with design intent and quality standards.
- Present and justify design choices to stakeholders across different levels of the organization.
- Identify and pursue opportunities independently while ensuring strategic alignment across teams.
Requirements
- 7-10 years of experience in UX, product design, or service design.
- At least 3 years in leadership roles with a proven ability to guide design strategy and mentor team members.
- Demonstrated experience in designing for healthcare, biotech, or similarly regulated industries.
- A strong portfolio showcasing systems-level thinking and user-centered problem-solving from research to execution.
- Experience in both B2B and B2C healthcare product environments is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI-driven product experiences is a plus.
- Proven ability to collaborate with product management on prioritization and phased delivery.
- Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Miro.
- Strong knowledge of user research methods, from generative research to usability testing.
- Expertise in information architecture, interaction design, and UX best practices.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and healthcare regulations (HIPAA, FDA).
- Experience in creating and maintaining design systems at scale.

For this position, the total compensation package is $317,881 annually, which includes a base salary range of $179,521 to $211,201, depending on experience and chosen salary/equity options.
