We are seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to join our Prenatal data team at BillionToOne. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing complex datasets, developing data models, and generating insights that support our clinical and commercial objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, clinical, and sales, to ensure data quality and provide actionable recommendations. What you'll do

• Collaborate with senior team members to manage data ingestion from various sources into our central data warehouse, ensuring data integrity and consistency across datasets.
• Develop and maintain clean, reliable, and scalable data models that support analytics and reporting needs.
• Produce detailed analyses, dashboards, and reports to inform clinical, commercial, and operational decision-making processes.
• Work with multiple departments to address critical questions, such as optimizing lab turnaround times, identifying new sales opportunities, and improving overall operational efficiency.
• Maintain and enhance the central analytical data warehouse by aggregating data from different parts of the organization and working with teams responsible for operational systems.
• Utilize AI tools to augment your work processes and support colleagues in adopting AI technologies for increased productivity and innovation.
• Create and manage Tableau dashboards and self-service analytics platforms that enable clinical, commercial, and operational teams to access real-time data insights.
• Support the development of predictive models and machine learning algorithms to improve diagnostic accuracy and operational workflows.
• Ensure data privacy and security compliance, especially when working with sensitive healthcare data.
• Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of data processes and tools.
• Document data workflows, models, and analyses to facilitate knowledge sharing and reproducibility across the team.
• Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in data science, healthcare analytics, and AI tools to bring innovative solutions to the organization.

Requirements

• A Master's or PhD in data science, analytics engineering, computer science, or a related quantitative field with at least 2 years of relevant experience; candidates with a Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Proven proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R for data analysis, modeling, and scripting.
• Experience working with messy, complex, and unstructured data sources, with the ability to clean, preprocess, and validate data effectively.
• Familiarity with clinical, healthcare, or regulated datasets, understanding the importance of data privacy and compliance.
• Knowledge of AI tools and a willingness to support colleagues in adopting AI-driven solutions.
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical findings into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and deliver results on time.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, especially when working with large datasets.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar platforms.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with data engineering tools such as dbt, Airflow, Stitch, Hightouch, Cursor, or cloud platforms like AWS (S3, Batch, RDS, MWAA).
• Familiarity with bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, or the healthcare landscape, including understanding lab sales cycles and reimbursement processes.
• Knowledge of regulatory considerations related to healthcare data, such as HIPAA or ITAR compliance.
• Experience supporting AI adoption within a healthcare or diagnostics organization.
• Prior work in a startup or fast-paced environment, demonstrating agility and adaptability.

Practical notes

• This position offers a total annual compensation of $226,855, which includes a base salary range of $139,340 to $160,777.
• The benefits package includes multiple medical plans, with select plans fully covered for employees and up to 80% coverage for dependents.

• The role is based on-site in Menlo Park, CA, and requires working at the company's physical office location.
