About the role

Billigence is seeking an AI Governance Lead to spearhead our initiatives in artificial intelligence governance. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly, adhering to ethical standards and regulatory requirements. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with various stakeholders to establish frameworks that promote transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI applications. This position is based in London and is offered on a contract basis.

What you'll do

• Develop and implement comprehensive AI governance frameworks that align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and legal experts, to ensure AI projects adhere to established governance protocols.
• Conduct risk assessments and audits of AI systems to identify potential biases and ethical concerns, recommending actionable solutions.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of AI technologies on business operations and society, providing insights to senior management.
• Lead training sessions and workshops to educate staff on AI governance principles and ethical AI practices.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and industry groups, to stay informed about emerging trends and legislative changes in AI governance.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to AI governance policies, procedures, and compliance measures.
• Foster a culture of ethical AI development within the organization, encouraging innovation while prioritizing responsible practices.
• Analyze and report on the effectiveness of governance initiatives, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Act as a point of contact for inquiries related to AI governance, providing expert guidance to internal teams and external partners.
• Stay abreast of advancements in AI technologies and governance frameworks, ensuring that Billigence remains at the forefront of ethical AI practices.
• Contribute to the development of thought leadership materials, such as white papers and presentations, to position Billigence as a leader in AI governance.

Requirements

• Proven experience in AI governance, compliance, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of AI technologies, machine learning, and data analytics, with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable governance strategies.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR, ISO standards, and ethical AI guidelines.
• Excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to identify potential risks and ethical implications in AI systems.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in project management, with a track record of successfully leading initiatives from conception to implementation.
• A proactive and collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, law, or ethics.
• Experience working in a consultancy or advisory capacity related to AI governance.
• Knowledge of emerging AI technologies and their societal implications.
• Familiarity with data privacy laws and ethical frameworks in different jurisdictions.
• Previous experience in a leadership role, mentoring junior staff or leading cross-functional teams.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as Python, R, or SQL, to support governance assessments.
• Familiarity with AI development frameworks and tools, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of project management software and collaboration tools, such as Jira, Trello, or Asana.
• Knowledge of compliance management systems and documentation tools.
