Senior 3D Animator - Blight: Survival | Animateur-rice 3D sénior-e
Job description
Senior 3D Animator - Blight: Survival | Animateur-rice 3D sénior-e at Bhvr.
About the role
Are you prepared to enter the demanding field of interactive entertainment creation? Behaviour Interactive presents a new opportunity to contribute to a major franchise. We are a large independent developer with teams in Montreal, Toronto, Rotterdam, and the UK. Our work spans contract projects for leading publishers and the creation of our own intellectual properties. The position focuses on the survival horror title Blight: Survival, a cooperative action game set in a brutal medieval setting. Players will face monstrous adversaries in intense third-person combat within beautifully decaying environments. Success depends on tense, strategic battles for survival. As a Senior 3D Animator, you will oversee the entire animation workflow for this project. Your work will determine the physicality and impact of every action in the game. You will transform grim medieval themes into convincing character performances using motion capture technology and manual keyframing. Your role is critical in defining player perception of combat through movement.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create animation states for enemy encounters to support aggressive melee gameplay and ensure they align with design goals.
- Construct rigs and develop tools that allow technical artists to rapidly iterate on creature locomotion and behaviour without constant artist intervention.
- Synthesize core animation principles such as timing, weight, and spacing to generate believable movement that feels weighty and intentional within the engine.
- Coordinate closely with audio and visual effects teams to synchronize attacks, impacts, and environmental reactions so that every encounter feels cohesive.
- Mentor junior animators by providing detailed critique that maintains a consistent visual language across all game areas and reinforces the grim medieval theme.
- Review your work regularly with technical directors to verify that animations perform correctly within hardware limits and match the visual vision for the project.
- Finalize sequences for public-facing materials such as trailers, marketing videos, and in-game cutscenes intended for PC and console releases to maximize audience impact.
- Prototype combat systems alongside design leaders to refine pacing and achieve tight, satisfying loops that respond immediately to player input.
- Handle several high-priority tasks simultaneously without sacrificing quality, demonstrating strong organizational skills under strict deadlines.
- Use industry-standard 3D software used in high-end film production to build, modify, and optimize animation assets for real-time engines.
- Discuss technical constraints openly with engineering and design personnel to find practical solutions that respect both artistic intent and performance budgets.
- Ensure that creature animation clearly communicates intent and weight so that players can instantly read enemy actions and react accordingly.
- Maintain a meticulous approach to file management and version control to keep the animation pipeline efficient and conflict-free across the team.
- Adapt quickly to feedback and iterate on animations until they meet the high standards required for a premium interactive entertainment experience.
- Stay current with advancements in motion capture processing and real-time animation techniques to bring innovative ideas into the project.
